My Grandfathers brother was John Henry Christian Nicholson b. 25 June 1899 Sydney who married Hilda Kate Lindsay in Torwood, John died in 1985 and his wife in 1996 in Brisbane , if any of their family (or friends) read this I would like to hear from them, I have Johns birth cert ( and his parents marriage ) but I am unable to have the death certs because I am not a direct descendant ( though I can prove I am his brothers grandaughter ) I found the death entries on Family Search but the Mormon church cannot give me the name of the person who gave the information because it was by a member after 1991, I will be very grateful for any help/advice Violet in Uk

    3. Thank you to all who have replied, and yes the mystery is solved, Herbert St is now Aster Terrace. Kerry I have just started going through your Streets of Brisbane, it's a fascinating read. Out of 9 houses of our ancestors I searched for on the weekend I have found 6 still standing to photograph, the rest have gone to units etc. 1934 electoral roll contains many more street numbers then previous rolls. Thanks again to everyone, Cheers Jenny ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mret" <hare2@optushome.com.au> To: <aus-qld-brisbane@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 19, 2008 8:50 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-QLD-BRISBANE] Herbert St Spring Hill > Here's a link to Herbert street in this map: > McKellar's official map of Brisbane & suburbs [cartographic material] > 1895. > from the National Library of Australia > > <http://www.nla.gov.au/apps/cdview?pi=nla.map-rm3036-b2-sd&rgn=0.4370956147,0.7733333333,0.6288042176,1.0233333333&width=600&cmd=zoomin> > > cheers > > > On Sun, 18 May 2008 22:29:10 +1000, Jenny <ryjosa@iprimus.com.au> wrote: > >> Hello List, >> Can anyone help me find a Herbert St Spring Hill. 3. Hi Jenny, There is a reference to Herbert Street on the http://www.chapelhill.homeip.net website maintained by David Horton & Kerry Raymond. I have copied the details of the full reference to "The Streets of Brisbane" from Google below. It contains the following sentence "The land which frontaged Leichhardt Street, extended to the corner of Wharf Street and ran down to Herbert Street (now Astor Terrace)". Leichhardt Street is in Spring Hill so it may be the case that the street that was known as Herbert Street Spring Hill is now known as Astor Terrace. Hope this helps. 3. Hi Jenny, Street names in Brisbane did change at various times for a number of reasons. There is a possibility that your grandparents dind't actually move but the street name changed from Herbert to Hill Street. In a previous email there was mentioned a Herbert St in Paddington but I think that one is unlikely as there is some distance between the suburbs of Paddington & Spring Hill. Sorry I cann't be of any more help but someone on the list may have more details on name changes. 1. [AUS-QLD-BRISBANE] Lest We forget, Men from Mackay killed in Great War of 1914-1918
    2. GLEN HALL
    3. Hi All Just to let you all know I have finally produced a webpage listing 320 men from the Mackay district who died during the service to their country in the Great War of 1914-1918. The list is not complete but is the result of 14 years of research and thousands of hours with the endevour of compiling a biographical register of all those who died in War from the Mackay Region. I think I have collected about 15,000+ pages of documentation so far conservatively. The men and Women of the Second World War and Vietnam will be done later in Volume 2. I have attached a list of these men with basic details and am asking for any assistance in providing further bigraphical details as well as contempory photos of the men as well as their final resting places for a publication. Yes I have researched at the Australian War Memorial, Commonwealth War Graves Commission and National Archives etc as well as local sources....even before these became easily available over the NET!!!!!! I am hoping to get this published by the end of the year and am working on manuscript at present so anything more I can add will polish it off and be a lasting memorial to these men. I am hoping to have the book presented to every school in the Mackay region as well as proceeds to go to local veterans groups so it will be not for profit. Eventually I will try to put some pages on the website as well I have many portraits of the men but there are still some missing as well as family details as well.... to find the listing goto http://www.mackayhistory.org/research/fallen_soldiers/great_war.html If you have anyone on the list you may be able to help with I will be extremely grateful to hear from you. cheers Glen Glen Hall Research Officer Mackay Historical Society and Museum Inc.
