Hi Folks, A relative, Alexander Duncan, died in Brisbane in September 1945. Below the family entry in funeral notices there was one that was inviting Officers and Members from the "Pride of Taringa, No 46 P.A.F.S.O.A." to attend his funeral. A search of the internet has produced nothing so I can only assume that the Lodge no longer exists or has another name. Anyone have any idea on who or what they were? Alexander originally came to Brisbane around 1885 from Scotland so I don't know if this is a clue as to the origins of the organisation. Bye, Rosemary Chalmers Darwin NT --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus
Hello Anne, A long time in replying to your query, but just onto this site now and researching that very thing. What I have to date is as follows: Brook Hill Private Hospital in Shaw Road West Nundah (Wavell Hts) opened in 1927 in the Cressy residence which was built in 1916. (General practice & Maternity) Chermside and Districts Historical Society: http://chermsidedistrict.org.au/01_cms/details.asp?ID=200 <http://chermsidedistrict.org.au/01_cms/details.asp?ID=200> The ‘Cressey’ in the residence was the Matron, Daisy Gertrude Cressey (Gleadhill) who was married to my Great Grandfather, Joseph Henry Cressey. If you have found any information more recent to this, especially any photos, I would love to be included. Many thanks, Steve Unwin
In response to David Scott's message regarding Arthur Heaford Malpas - Has anyone responded to your message? My Grandmother, now 100, is Arthur's daughter. : [AUS-QLD-BRISBANE] Arthur Heaford MALPAS David Scott via 7/1/2015, 1:55:19 AM Please forgive me if this query is not appropriate for this list, but my geographical knowledge of Queensland is absolutely zilcvh!!! I am trying to find out details of Arthur Heaford MALPAS. He was born in Worcester, England, in 1869, and seems to have come out to Australia some time after 1880. I can find him in Electoral Rolls and his death, so I know that he was a miner in 1903, and after that a farmer. He died in 1944. In the electoral rolls, his residence is given as "Residence Boyne Island, Benaraby, Division Capricornia He was buried in Gladstone Lawn Cemetery in 1944. I cannot find out whether he was married, or whether he left any other details of when he arrived in Queensland, and whether he made any impression on the newspapers or community. Any help would be most welcomed. But, as I say, if this is the wrong list, please do not hesitate to let me know! David Scott. Has anyone responded to your message? My Grandmother, now 100, is Arthur's daughter. Kind regards Emma

Hello List.........It was quite some time ago when I first put this query out there.......I did get some replies, but the problem has not been resolved, so i thought it must be time to try again... My maternal Grandmother Mary Margaret WECKER nee Fahy/Fahey aka DAVIDSON died in a sulky accident in Qld 20 July 1924 at age thirty-nine, leaving my mother then aged fifteen and her half sister (Lillian) birth registered as WECKER aged nine born January 1915..... Lillian’s Qld Death 1960 listed as nee DAVIDSON.... Grandma at the time was in a defacto relationship with John DAVIDSON....Grandma had married WECKER in January 1912. On Grandma’s death certificate there are two deceased children, one male one female.... I have located the male child John, born Charleville Qld 23 May 1913 Birth registered as WECKER... A second birth registration shows as FAHEY... .. He died in Cunnamulla Qld 06 December 1913 with death registered as DAVIDSON. Re the missing female child........ I have diligently searched the Queensland Deaths fiche from 1915 to 1924 in the hope of solving this dilemma..... No joy........ Has anyone any suggestions please on where else I might look, or am i looking at the possibility of just having to accept that I will never know the answer.... Thanks to everyone Sam Maleny Qld

Thank you kindly for your input Rosemary, and yes... everyone, please insert at least one Surname in the subject line. It has been a rocky road this last couple of weeks getting the lists up and working properly and there are further 'bugs' in the system that are currently being worked upon to resolve the issues. Your patience in that regard would be much appreciated. In the meantime, please continue to post your information and requests. It would be extremely helpfully, especially when later researchers check the archives, if those respomding to the roll call actually changed the Subject Line to reflect at least the surname of the family they are enquiring about or mentioning. I'll list the 1st relative I am aware of in the Brisbane area: BLOOMFIELD, Daniel George (1858-1915) A musician in the Royal Marines migrated from Chatham to Brisbane in 1883. He was in the Queensland Naval Brigade (which ultimately became part of the Australian Navy upon Federation). He was an accomplished musician who was part of the Ninth Australian Infantry (Moreton) Regiment. He started a number of bands in the area including the Brisbane Metropolitan Band (which I believe is still going). Trove has numerous reports of the concerts he was part of around the Brisbane area. He also went to Sydney to work in theatre productions. He married Mary Jane Bullingham while still in England in 1879. They had several children: Alice Maud (1881–), George William (1882-), Albert Edward (1884-1886), Daniel (1886-1958), Agnes Elizabeth (1888-1962), Robert Charles (1890-), and May Ellen (1892-1893). They also had a property in Stanthorpe. Trove has a couple of pictures of him as well. An article on page 21 of the 11 Apr 1931 edition of the Courier has a great article on Brass Bands in Brisbane (gotta love the alliteration): http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article21686477 DOUGLAS, Emma Lucy (nee BLOOMFIELD) who after marrying her sister's widower moved to Australia with my gGrandmother and step-siblings. They lived in the Toowong area mostly. Emma was DG Bloomfield's sister. Their father had served in the Royal Marines and was involved in some great adventures (the River Niger expedition on 1841 where he was one of a handful that came back unscathed by disease; awarded the Arctic Medal). He retired as a Colour Sergeant after 20 years of service. Lucy's two step sons Arthur Stewart (1878-1964) (m. Blanch Etta Hudd) and Albert Percy (1880-1973) (m. Elena Louisa Alberta Bryant) had families. Lucy and husband George had a daughter Annie Louisa who never married. Most are buried in Toowong Cemetery. AUSTIN, John (1838-1920) (my gggUncle). Born in Sydney he married Annie Maria McCleer who died in 1885. He moved to Queensland and married Eliza McClean in 1899. Between him and his two wives he had numerous children than were split between Sydney and Brisbane. He was one of the founders of the Sydney Tattersalls Club and his son Arthur Edward John (1872-1949) (aka "Sirdar") was a well-known turf writer in Brisbane. I don't have any blocks for these folks in Brisbane but am stuck with Daniel's family back in England. Neale Ferguson
