Thank you Gloria but I don't think this is the same person as his widow had other children from her first marriage to a William Burgess (another seaman) and she was living in Baynes Street Sailor's Gully now known as Highgate Hill or South Brisbane. She lived in the same street until her death on 1912. I don't know much about lodges, but the "Loyal Orange Lodge" sounds like it is Irish. Is it possible that William was irish? As entertainment was given last Tuesday night at the Protestant Hall, under the auspices of the Loyal Orange Lodge of Queensland (Mr. D. P. Milne in the chair), for the benefit of the widow and three children of a deceased brother, William Wathen. His family have been left comparatively destitute, and his brethren of the lodge decided to build a cottage for his widow and family. The proceeds will be devoted to that purpose, and it is gratifying to record that the sympathy and support of the members of the lodge and of the public was fully demonstrated by a very large audience. The hall was crowded, many persons having to be content with standing room, and the number present was stated to be about 900. The whole of the entertainment was carried out successfully. The piano solos were well executed, and the songs by lady and gentlemen amateurs were most favourably received.
