    3. Thanks for your reply i have a just got a hint for my Mclean ancestor he was suppose to have been working near the Dawson river Central Qld so i take that to mean around Taroom in 1901-1902 which is when Kidman came through buying cattle he hired Archie mcLean to take the mob back. So i am looking for any Mcleans in that area his father and mother are unknown but his children's names include Archibald, Neil, Duncan so i am desperately trying to narrow my search all i have is on children's births, list Rockhampton and Gladstone area. He was born around 1873-1874 He has a few things written about him in trove one written in the" Worker" brisbane 30th sept 1905 "An Australian Bullfighter" Country paper are spinning about a stockman names Archie McLean "who when charged by a bullock, jumps off his horse, walks up to the irate beast, which is throwing the dust up his back in challenge. When a few yards from the beast McLean just waits until he charges, as the beast rushes him he steeps slightly to the right grasps the near horn, throws his weight into the beasts shoulder, the beast becomes alarmed, and starts to canter off. He then gets hold of the near fore leg and throws the beast in his stride. Archie then steps nimbly over the bullock and pulls the rear fore foot over his horn The rest is merely detail" So any help to find him would be great.. The hint i got came from an interview one other Kidman mangers gave, stating Archie had come from the Dawson river area central Qld. Through his first drive for Kidman was from Rockland downs N.T. To S.A. many thanks Julie Mclean -----Original Message----- From: julie dern Sent: Wednesday, May 16, 2012 11:33 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [AUS-QLD] Help with Taroom area I have been watching the replies for your original query on D. McLean. Is it a David McLEAN you are looking for. There is no McLEAN one who died on 16.1.1902 in the death indexes. I have them on microfiche, so can check all names & exact dates. No are there any buried in the Taroom Cemetery.

    3. Hi Julie, It looks as though this could be your Archie - NSW BDM Reg. 14523/1876 McLEAN ARCHIBALD CAMERON Father's Given Name - Neil Mother's Given Name - Harriet Registered at MANNING RIVER If you want a copy of the registration, don't buy from NSW BDM. Get a transcription from an agent. Muchh cheaper and quicker. There were 11 children in the family, but Harriett is also spelt Harriet, so either search use both spellings, or leave out mother's name. Cheers

    3. Hello Julie,The "Dawson" area can mean anywhere from between Springsure and Injune around the Carnarvon Ranges - through Taroom, Theodore - then on through Baralaba to Duaringa and on to wherever the Dawson joins the Fitzroy system. I suggest that you look at a map and follow the Dawson from its headwaters - it is a very long river - and the phrase "on the Dawson" that was used back in the day, covered a lot of properties (and still does, but the properties are smaller). I know of an ancestor who was known to be at "'Boxvale' on the Dawson", and we were merrily going along thinking that it was closer to Rocky, when in fact, "Boxvale" is between Springsure and Injune. Of course, it too, was a much bigger property in the 1800s than now. Kidman had a string of properties that were basically linked by watering points for his stock movements. His history is well-documented, so you may get some leads researching Kidman.Regards Estelle > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Date: Wed, 16 May 2012 12:31:01 +1000 > Subject: Re: [AUS-QLD] Help with Taroom area > > Hi Julie, > > It looks as though this could be your Archie - > > NSW BDM > Reg. 14523/1876 McLEAN ARCHIBALD CAMERON > Father's Given Name - Neil > Mother's Given Name - Harriet > Registered at MANNING RIVER > > If you want a copy of the registration, don't buy from NSW BDM.
