The changes to the Qld BMD site have nothing to do with the Premier! These changes (as explained below) are the result of suggestions made by the users of the site... Janet Improvements to RBDM's family history research released In June we launched the enhanced family history research facility on the Queensland Government website. While this largely received a positive response, a number of you suggested areas where it could be improved. Over the last three months we have been working with our developer to incorporate a number of your suggestions. I am pleased to be able to announce that a new improved version of the search engine was released today, Wednesday October 16. In the new version you will no longer have to accept our purchasing terms and conditions before you search the historical index; something I know from your comments many of you found frustrating. I would stress that searching the RBDM historical index remains free, and you only have to pay when you order a copy of a certificate or download an image of a register page. The order button, which many of you also said was intrusive, has now been replaced with text next to your search results. This makes the results easier to review and you now simply click on the text to order. The search engine has also been more closely integrated with the Queensland Government website, allowing you to access the search page with just a couple of clicks. The search options themselves have been made more flexible and you no longer need to enter information in the ‘Last name’ field to search. You can enter the person’s first or last names, their father or mother’s first names, or any combination of these; and you can use the wildcard feature on all of these search fields. In addition we’ve improved our help and tips information making it easier to understand what you need to enter and where. I would stress that these changes have been made in direct response to comments made by you, our users. We value your feedback and as you can see, we have used it to provide a better service; so please keep it coming. I invite you to go online and try out the new search engine and hope it makes your family history researching easier.
