C. P. Keane, S.M., discharged without conviction Leslie James Rake, 24, soldier, of Duntroon, who had pleaded guilty to stealing a pair of binoculars and case from the Royal Military College. Rake was ordered to enter into a £18 bond to be of good behaviour for 12 months. Mr. Keane had found the offence proven, but applied section 556A of the Crimes Act on the grounds of previous good character. Rake was the driver of a vehicle which transported stores, including the binoculars, to the rifle range. Questioned by an officer, he denied knowledge of the missing goods, but he later admitted to the police he had hidden them.
