Hi Robert, I can't help but think that it wasn't a town as such but the description of a place that the family regarded as 'paradise' especially since in the wording from your relative the word paradise began with a lowercase 'p'. In 1993 my husband and kids visited the 'Town of 1770' (if you could call it such back then - it was a village if that). It was very remote and a long gravel hazardous road in off the main Hwy but very beautiful and an untouched natural environment on the water - we were all thought of it as 'paradise'. I think that Paul Hogan's mate John Cornell "Strop" from the "Paul Hogan Show" purchased a huge chunk of 1770. You said they said they were going "up" to Paradise from Bundaberg not down so I presume they didn't mean Surfers Paradise or Paradise Point both on the Gold Coast. One could assume then it was the old gold mining town; "Paradise" which is in the same area. I suppose the other thought if this doesn't help is that they were referring to a place further up that could be described as 'paradise' however you are using a capital "P" thus presume it is an actual place.
