    1. Re: [AUS-QLD] Where is Paradise in Queensland?

    3. Thanks, Robert! That helps. The Paradise that Laraine has suggested is certainly the closest to Bundaberg/1770 https://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=25%C2%B0+21%E2%80%B2+12%E2%80%B3+S%09151%C 2%B0+55%E2%80%B2+15%E2%80%B3+E&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=-25.344957,151.92358&spn=0.0 97272,0.154324&sll=-25.5127,152.045288&sspn=3.108138,4.938354&t=h&z=13 But, against it as a theory, it is, as she says, now underwater and there doesn't appear to be a lot of people living in the area (there appear to be only a few farms in the area) - take a look at the satellite view. Are these people known to be farmers or be keen on fishing/boating or other activities that people do at dams? https://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=25%C2%B0+21%E2%80%B2+12%E2%80%B3+S%09151%C 2%B0+55%E2%80%B2+15%E2%80%B3+E&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=-25.344957,151.92358&spn=0.0 97272,0.154324&sll=-25.5127,152.045288&sspn=3.108138,4.938354&t=h&z=13 Also, Lake Paradise is to the south of Bundaberg/1770 so not "up" in "north-south" sense but might be "up" in the sense of the transition from the coast to the dam (which obviously must be "up" above sea level). The place I suggested was chosen because it was definitely north of Bundaberg and because there appeared to be housing there for people to be living in. But the tone of "go up for short periods of time for a break away" makes it sounds like they are talking about somewhere not that far away from their current, making Lake Paradise sounds more likely than that they are travelling to the Paradise area near Kuranda. There are a couple of other Paradise's but they are all much further south relative to Bundaberg and seem unlikely to be places they would be going "up" to. Given that we are talking about information from as recent as 2003, have you checked the White Pages or simply "googled" for the people in the hope of finding them mentioned in an online newspaper or club newsletter etc, which might definitively pin down the location. BTW, this website is always a good place to start when you are looking for Queensland places: http://www.nrm.qld.gov.au/property/placenames/ Kerry -----Original Message----- From: Robert N. G. Re: Where is Paradise in Queensland? Thank you all for responding to my posting. Kerry: You ask to be more pacific: It was in Sep 2003 whilst they were living in the Bundaberg/1770 area; that in an e-mail to us; the following was mentioned: " he is going to live with us up at paradise when we leave here but already is going to go up for short periods of time for a break away" This would indicate to me that it's up North of the Bundaberg area? Robert, When was this mention of Paradise? There are a number of places called Paradise, so we need a little more information to narrow it down. For example, in the 1950s, it might be a reference to Surfers Paradise, but it would be 1930s it would not be so because that name had been introduced. So knowing "when" matters. Also, you said they were "moving up". Are these your words? Or, did they actually say/write "moving up" (implying a south-to-north movement or from a low place to a high place, e.g. from the coast to the mountains)? And if so, where were they when they said/wrote it (so we know where they meant "up" relative to?). Also, in what circumstances did they say/write it? Obviously in a formal document, we can expect it to be a formal name. If it's an informal documents, e.g. a Christmas card, then it may be an informal name or nickname. For example, it might just have been a remark that they expected to go to Heaven when they died. My best guess in the meantime is https://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=-16.81667,+145.64999&hl=en&ll=-16.816701,1 45.650043&spn=0.103029,0.154324&sll=-19.01019,144.986572&sspn=6.509852,9.876 709&t=m&z=13 Kerry
