    3. Hi Marg and Barbara! Well, I am certainly learning a lot about early Australian records. Thank you so much for your assistance and everyone else that has responded. Now Barbara, that is food for thought - I had never thought of that - entered in the St Mary's Sydney register because that was the only Catholic parish. The marriage cert. states, ---- I, Michael Brennan of Sydney, priest Minister of St Mary's Church Sydney do hereby certify that Peter Murphy of Sydney and Catherine Thompson of Sydney were joined in wedlock ----- at St Mary's Church, Sydney in the presence of Mary Anne Tyrrell (mark) and William Tyrrell both of Sydney. I guess this means they actually married at the church in Sydney - any thoughts on this? Would the > other > reference produce more information? > No. These Church records were very difficult to index , some of the hand writing not brilliant so sometimes there are 2 or 3 possibles . They can be difficult to look up . Transcription only cost about $9 . I reckon that can be money well spend having spent quite a few hours trying to find quite a few refs and ordered the odd transcription Bye MargM From: "Barbara OConnor" <maurie777@ozemail.com.au> Someone else might have picked this up and I've managed to miss it, but with reference to the Sydney marriage - I'm pretty sure that in 1842 there would have been only one RC parish from Sydney up to at least Brisbane/Moreton Bay. So marriages would have been entered in the St Marys, Sydney register, regardless of where they actually took place. But quite happy to be corrected.
