    3. Could I please have a look up for George STAPLETON and wife Ellen in the 1903 Electoral Roll George died in October 1903... I am hoping he was on the roll Ellen died in 1911 both buried in Toowong.. This is not the same George STAPLETON I have been searching for for years..... but a completely different Family...........................just happen to be named George....which confses things no end.... ....I cant connect the two STAPLETON Families yet...     3. Could not find George on the 1903 electorla roll on Ancestry. There is an Ellen Stapleton in Rockhampton.Also an Ellen Stapleton in Metropolitan Hotel, Goondoon St,Gladstone Qld, working as a Domestic.     3. Thanks Elaine I know George died in 1903 was hoping he made the Electoral roll George died in Brisbane..... Do you know if they were convicts would they have been able to vote.....     3. Compulsory didn't come in until 1911 for Federal, 1914 for Queensland state. Earlier Qld rolls were dependent on land ownership. Perhaps your man was never on an electoral roll. Transportation ended 1868 (??) - once they served their time, they were free men/women, so back to the land ownership question.
