>John Thomas RUMMINS... Chief Cook on the ship Pilbarra... left >Sydney on the 23rd January 1915. He signed off on the 26th January >1915 when this ship reached Brisbane... any Brisbane records of >seamen being engaged on vessels after this date The advice below is extracted from the section 'Ship's Crew' in the book "Tips for Qld Research" (2008 edition) described on www.judywebster.gil.com.au/publicat.html: The National Archives of Australia have records created under the 'British Merchant Shipping Act 1894' and 'Commonwealth Navigation Act of 1912', including crew lists, engagements etc. Before 1924, passenger lists held by the National Archives Brisbane Office included crew. Qld State Archives hold registers of seamen 1882-1919 (engagements, discharges and desertions, mainly for the port of Brisbane). To find other records of seamen, search the State Archives catalogue under agency headings such as Harbour Master's Office, Shipping Master and Police Magistrate.
