    1. Re: [AUS-QLD] Peter Murphy

    3. I would definitely agree with Barbara (naturally) that the couple were resident in Sydney. Just out of curiosity, I looked up a bit of early RC church history. The Archdiocese of Sydney was 'erected' on 28th February, 1842, with John Bede Polding the Residential Archbishop. The Archdiocese at that time covered the whole of the eastern portion, comprising what is now known as NSW, Victoria and Queensland. [Polding might well be remembered for popularising the term 'Australian', rather than English, Irish, Scottish.] Diocese of Maitland established in 1847 as Suffragan (auxilary) to the Archibishop of Sydney. And a useless bit of goss - my g-g-grandparents were first cousins and therefore refused marriage in the Catholic Church. They married in 1858 at St James Anglican, Sydney, then went to confession and, as penance, were told not to sleep together for one week. Guess they made up for it later - they had nine daughters. I've wondered if the fact that they had no sons might have been taken as God's punishment. But She wouldn't be so mean, would She? Cheers Barbara
