Hi Helen, Mine definitely came from Ireland...and they were not landed gentry...usually my lot were Ag. Labs.. And in those days with the counties so close to each other, I have found that some of my ancestors 'border hopped' for work, by simply walking up the hill, or across the road... Mary was born in Kilkenny, but without the births of other siblings to match up, I don't know whether they moved or not. Hope we can link some of these Cahill names... I also have CAHILL from Ireland, found my gggrandfather Thomas and his wife Sarah Scahill or Skehill on the parish register, who married in Gort 17 March 1855, he had a sister Mary who married an Edward O'Brien at Castledaly Galway, Mary was born Peterswell Galway. The parents of these two are Patrick Cahill and Bridget O'Loughlin.
