Evelyn I went to LDS irish films, but you need to have an idea of which parish they might be in and also be prepared to find that the earlier books can be unreadable or not there, not survived etc, or the "good" father moved and took them with him etc. I started with the information I found written on the bottom of a late birth registration for one of the sons of my Thomas and Sarah, which she registered in 1906 because he was getting married and taking the Bride overseas, he was born late 1850s but not registered, although was baptised at St Mary's Catholic Church Ipswich, which showed his actual birth date as well as baptism, so I got the certifcate and Mum had written on the bottom of the register form when and where they married at Gort, so I went to Familysearch to see what they had for that parish and have been getting the films to check. It is very difficult if you are not aware of which parish, but I have recently read in one of the english magazines that the Irish bdms from 1864 are now on line through Familysearch, haven't gone there myself yet as my two arrived at Moreton Bay Jan 1856, having left Galway in October 1855. Don't know if this can help.
