Hi Barbara and Listers, Hmmm ... well, I have now checked the other States, where I found some other LIPPs (including a Harry LIPP in the Victorian Pioneers). But, definitely no other Johannes LIPP ... so, my guess is that Johannes was a Swiss-German, from Oberdorf in (County) Basel-Land, Switzerland. (1824 is actually the date that Martin LIPP became a citizen of Oberdorf - not his birthdate).
