Lorrae These indexes are not new, this is the type of index all societies have, you will find them at the Toowoomba & Drayton Society, Ipswich Society, Genealogical Society. Qld Family History Society, State Library and most of the major societies in each State, even the LDS Centres have them. If you are going to State Library you will need to get there early as the mornings are usually busy, the "Micrographics sections" as this section is called is on the Floor 3 State Library at the very back of the floor, you will need to walk past all the computers on the right and the rows of music information, along past the photocopy room on your right and turn the corner and you will find the area where the computer/film fiche readers are and the rows of films of newspapers and some microfiche readers. Unfortunately the "powers that be" have not allowed much spare in the building and on this floor for such a busy section. Thanks Barbara Strangely the opening hours of the other centres near me do not suit - I usually take the full day off work and go to South Brisbane. Parking is now $14 for the day, and my safest and easiest method of transport. It is a whole days outing for me so I may as well take advantage. Also, as I am coming from 'country' / rural, I can book a reader ahead of time to ensure I can get one. It was the interstate indexes I am mostly interested in and my initial query was more with I was wondering if "Ask a Librarian" would be able to do a lookup, but I think that may be asking too much of an ask, so I will travel down one day and search. Thanks for the reply, Barbara, and I agree that not enough foresight went into that area - very crowded and compact when you have to walk through so much open space before you get to the little corner. Lorrae Use the online service of'Ask a Librarian'. It's a State Library. Take advantage of what you are paying for with your taxes.
