    2. Dr Jennifer Lambert Tracey via
    3. Hello Jan, Glad to see your great list of Queensland names! No apologies necessary - and do keep up the good work! You have been a long-term stalwart of the QLD list every ready to help many of us with those never-ending brick walls. Your MUIR entry is of interest to me: I have an Elizabeth MUIR (1840-1905) dau. of Thomas MUIR (1806-1859) b. Inverness, Scotland, and Christina GRANT (1809 - 1860). Elizabeth married our John Donald MacLELLAN (1840-1898). She had 3 siblings, as far as I am aware: Angus MUIR (1842-1883), Thomas MUIR (1844-1892) and Flora MUIR (1847-1904). m. James TROTT. Elizabeth was living at Dalwood, Darling Downs, when she died on 16 December 1904.Perhaps your MUIRs are similar to our MacLELLANs. There are very few MacLELLAN families in Queensland that are not related to the original Darling Downs - Mount Kent / Clifton - MacLELLANs - Donald and his wife Annie McINNES also from Inverness, arrived on board the "William Miles" in 1854. If you think there may be a link, we can talk further. 3. Hello Lorrae, Thank you for your MADDEN posting and for your kind welcome. I trust there is someone on the list who can assist you make your connection. ***** Also, for list members, please see Lorrae's published books at http://www.lorrae.net/ Nice to have such a dedicated historian / author in our midst. I am looking forward to your revision of 'Cross Country - Hayes Connection'. Daniel TRACEY / TREACY, born c.1803 Co. Clare, Ireland, married Catherine HAYES [daughter of Bridget ... and Andrew HAYES]. The Tracey family emigrated to Queensland on board the "John Fielden" arriving Moreton Bay, 11 June, 1853 (AONSW 4/4933; mfm 2465). Daniel [aged 50 years] and Catherine [aged 45 years] stated that they had a "Cousin in Sydney". This "Cousin" who was reputed to be a 'HAYES", has skilfully escaped my scrutiny! Also, on my LAMBERT line I have a Samuel BATESON HAYES married to Sarah LAMBERT (1857-1922 of Edmonton, Middlesex,) on 30 October 1897 in Queensland. Samuel died at Mount Morgan in 1919. His mother, Elizabeth PALLISTER of Wetherby, Yorkshire, married twice, first to BATESON, then to HAYES. I am still looking for this 'Hayes" as well. He died whilst 'away up north', and is buried at Nulla Nulla Station, (which is below Kangernong Station, above Glencoe station NW of Charters Towers - situated between Bluff Downs and Cargoon). Interesting comment on the inquery into the death: George was droving with father and young 15 year old brother William at time of father's death. His father gave William "the way bill and left him in charge of the mob . . as brother George is 17 yrs of age and he is deaf and dumb". 1. [AUS-QLD] AUS-QLD Administration
    2. Dr Jennifer Lambert Tracey via
    3. Dear AUS-QLD list members, Those of you who have been active on the List over the past week or so will know that our long-standing and much appreciated list administrator, 'MargM', has resigned. We sincerely wish her well in her new endeavours and trust we will see her regularly participating on the list. This morning, Rootsweb confirmed that my request to take over the role of list administrator for AUS-QLD has been accepted. I trust that I will be able to fulfil this role with due decorum and consideration, and thank you in advance for your support and assistance. The AUS-QLD list was established in 1980, and with few absences, has continued through the years to be a venue for a wide variety of genealogical and historical topics relating to everything that is Queensland. Thirty-four years is an excellent record and I consider that the old adage - 'If it's not broken, don't fix it', certainly applies in this instance. With the advances in digital technology and increasing access to archives around the world, it is an exceptionally exciting and rewarding time to be undertaking research. This opportunity to learn so much more about our ancestral families places an inherent obligation upon us to pass to our younger generations the ability to appreciate the legacies of our forebears. The genealogical 'bare bones' of our families can now be so readily enriched with vibrant historical data and images. We can look deeply into their social conditions, the countries from which they came and why, and the fledgling settlements they established in the vast frontier that became 'Queensland'. We all know and appreciate that our family histories need to be recorded, and that is why mailing lists such as AUS-QLD are so important. To that end, the only change that I propose to make at this time is to enhance the List 'description' (below): "AUS-QLD - a Rootsweb Mailing List dedicated to historical and genealogical research relevant to Queensland, Australia, including the period prior to separation from New South Wales on 10 December 1859. You are welcome to post information on any relevant historical / genealogical topic or to kindly request the assistance of other AUS-QLD members in your genealogical / historical research. Please ensure that you insert details in the 'Subject' line of your posting, with 'surnames' in capital letters ... e.g. "HAYES and JONES - Palmer Goldfield, N.Qld. c.1873". Your message 'body text' may contain any information that you consider important to explain your research interest or question. Remember, those willing to assist you need to know what you are looking for, to save repetitious searching. Spam, inflammatory comments or inappropriate material will not be tolerated." May I wish you all the best with your research. Should you have concerns with any posting, please contact me immediately: AUS-QLD-admin@rootsweb.com Kindest regards, Jennifer (AUS-QLD List Administrator). 3. Hi Folks A Craigie family, Thomas (25), wife Ann (23), and son John George (3) departed Liverpool 27/8/1855 on the “Parsee” and arrived in Melbourne 9th or 10th December 1855. His occupation is “shipwright” on the record (Victoria Assisted and Unassisted Passenger Lists). Would anyone know if there are any other shipping records for this family which would give any more information on them? I can’t find any English passenger records for the “Parsee”. I notice in the “Bendigo Advertiser” of 11/10/1856 in the “Missing Friends etc” column there is the following: “Thomas Craigie, Ship Parsee. Any information respecting him will oblige his wife. Address Post Office, Bendigo”. Perhaps Thomas deserted his wife. There is a marriage of a Thomas Craigie (aged 29 who is also a shipwright) to an Annie Lawrie (or Laurie) at Wentworth in New South Wales on 3/9/1862 (I have the marriage certificate). This couple had a son, also Thomas, at Wentworth on 19/11/1863 (I have the birth certificate). Then Thomas Craigie (Snr.) seems to have disappeared. I think that Annie Craigie may have eventually formed a relation ship with a George Kelly. The surname of Thomas Craigie (Jnr.) may have eventually been changed to Kelly and he, I think, is my grandfather. Thank you Ian Kelly Sandstone Point, Queensland.

    3. Hello Glenda, Something you say near the end of your email, struck a chord with me. I have two families coming to Queensland on the "Flying Cloud" in 1863. Two Meredith brothers and the eight members of the Shepherd family. (The ship's manifest is online at the Queensland Archives site.) I have seen the original and the family groups are listed separately. Edwin Meredith and Elizabeth Shepherd go on to have eight children here in Maryborough, but I couldn't find any marriage. After many frustrating searches, lo and behold, there they were being married in Shropshire in 1862 BEFORE they came out on the boat. The only explanation I can offer, is that it may have been a "package deal" for each of the families, with cheaper fares than if they travelled as three separate families. i.e. Edwin's brother on his own, Edwin and Elizabeth as a married couple, and Elizabeth's parents and five siblings separate again. Both families had skills in the brickmaking industry. Cheers, Wynnette. -----Original Message----- From: aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Glenda via Sent: Monday, 29 September 2014 1:45 AM To: aus-qld@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-QLD] George Morris Hello, looking for ideas or suggestions...I have been looking for the origins of my 2x gt grandfather, George Morris. His son John has on his m/c that he was born in Brisbane. No birth registered in Qld. I have checked most of the b/cs of his children, and there again he says born in Brisbane. On the marriage cert. of John to Sussanah Mary Sayles/Sales he has given his parents as George Morris and Mary Ann Paterson. However, on his d/c his parents are listed as Geo Morris and Mary Hardie...the informant was obviously confused as Mary Hardy/Hardie was the mother of John's wife, Sussanah I have found no married for Geo to Mary Ann Paterson. I have searched using different spelling for Paterson. I have found no other births to this couple, nor deaths for any deceased males. John's birth year would have been 1869/70. I have found a couple of marriages for Mary Ann Paterson/s but they were as late as 1879, 85, 89. It could have been possible that Geo Morris and Mary Ann Paterson never married and then she went on to marry later to someone else. I have found a Geo and John Morris together pre 1895 on rolls, (exact spot not readily recallable, but somewhere close to Warwick). After John marries in the early 1890's, the Geo and John no longer appear together on the electoral rolls. By 1903, John is in Rockhampton. There is a Geo Morris slowly moving north from 'Warwick' and then one appears in Muttaburra. It would appear that this Geo Morris lives with, and eventually marries a Margaret White? who has been married previously. However I have no way of proving this Geo is the father of John. I have tried to check English census for such a family... ie Geo, Mary Ann, and John, but with no success. I tried again today to replicate some information I had re a Geo Morris (by himself) and a Mary Ann Paterson (with her family), arriving on the same ship, but met with no success on Ancestry. They would have only been in their late teens. Does anyone have any ideas of how I might dig further re George and Mary Ann?
