Hi Leslie He is mentioned on Find My Past also but not much help for what you want to find out. Mention is made of him and also Sahad Deen Rane of Hillcrest, Samford on the Qld Brands Directory 1949 -1952 and the actual brand is shown on another record. He is the son-in-law of my great grand aunt: Betsey Tye and her husband Mohomed Howsan. I have started to research this couples' children's spouses Kareem Bocos married their daughter Amanah on 24 Aug 1918 and he died 3 July 1943. There are quite a few articles in various newspapers that I found on Trove about him. He was involved as a witness in family law suits. He owned quite a bit of property and his wife opened probate on his estate and also wrote memorials every year for several years on the anniversary of his death. Where and when was Kareem born? His death index says his parents were Nazaam Deen and Geoo. Gwendoline Vining married Mahomed Ali Howsan in 1938. I cannot find her birth or death information. In fact the only thing I find about her is the marriage. Any help on these folks would be wonderful. Good morning to the List, Re: Digitised version of the New South Wales Government Gazette from 1832-2001 This morning I received advice from a colleague that the National Library of Australia, in conjunction with the State Library of New South Wales, is working towards making a digitised version of the New South Wales Government Gazette from 1832-2001 available through the Trove Newspapers service http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/ . This would be a wonderful resource for all forms of historical research be it genealogical / historical, land tenure and legal research. The Govt Gazettes are far too bulky to browse and it is very hard to find anything in them unless you have the exact details. When digitised they will be an invaluable research for research into NSW history and of course Queensland prior to separation. The National Library is conducting a short online user survey on use of government gazette materials to help them better understand why and how people use government gazettes for information, so that they can align with those needs. The survey is at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GovGazetteUse Please give a few moments of your time to complete the short survey and leave a message of encouragement. This may save you hours in the future. Your support for this project would be much appreciated. My mum lived in Carters Towers when young and mentioned this but my Dad's STANTON family in southern Queensland had never heard of it. I have gone back to William STANTON who married Sarah HALL on 13 November 1814 in Keysoe, Bedfordshire and if there is a connection it must be earlier. There are six places in England and one just over the border in Wales called STANTON, which is Anglo Saxon or Old English in origin. So very likely named after a different place that happened to have the same name. And ...Good Morning to you too Jan, and Desma, Your postings have brought to mind the noted George Henry STANTON (18351905) and the person after whom "Stanton Hill" in Townsville was named. George Henry Stanton (1835-1905), Anglican bishop, was born at Stratford, Essex, England, on 3 September 1835, son of William Stanton, and his wife Charlotte, née Hopkins. Educated at the Merchant Taylors' School and Magdalen Hall, later Hertford College, Oxford (B.A., 1859; M.A., 1862; D.D., 1878), he was made deacon in 1858 and ordained next year by the bishop of Winchester; in 1858-62; he was assistant curate at Christ Church, Rotherhithe, in 1862-64 at All Saints', Maidstone, and in 1864-67 at St Saviour's, Fitzroy Square, London. In 1867 he became vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Lincoln's Inn Fields. He was chosen in January 1878 as the first bishop of North Queensland. Consecrated in St Paul's Cathedral, London, on 24 June, by the archbishop of Canterbury, he was enthroned in St James's Pro-cathedral, Townsville, on 21 May 1879.
