    1. Re: [AUS-QLD] BLOXSIDGE FAMILY
    2. solsen3 . via
    3. HI Val, Well this is certainly a very interesting family you have!!!! I am not sure where exactly Mary died.. however I did find her death registration amongst other details of her life previous to marrying Frederick BLOXSIDGE. I would say it was very unlikely that Fred and Mary had any children as she would have been 54 when they married. Please note she was listed as Agnes Mary BLOXSIDGE (not Mary Agnes) which may explain why she was a bit tricky to find. She died in 1976 and it was a country registration (somewhere out of Brisbane) C927/1976 with her parents listed as George HULCOMBE and Lavinia GRIFFESS. I have checked for a birth reference for Mary.. and found the following. Agnes Mary HULCOMBE born the 10th of October 1894 in Port Frederick, Tasmania. To George HULCOMBE and Lavinia GRIFFITHS. So I presume the name on the death certificate was an error. As you are aware Mary was married previously to William Henry LUXTON. They were married in Murwillumbah in 1914. they had a child this same year ( George W. LUXTON) also at Murwillumbah. (Note to make things tricky... there is another William Henry LUXTON in New South Wales at the same time... who happens to be a Gallipoli Veteran... there is quite a bit written about him in the newspapers.... this sadly is not you chap) William Henry LUXTON (your one) was born in the Tweed River New South Wales (presumably somewhere near Murwillumbah) in 1886 to James LUXTON and Eliza HANFORD. He died in a traffic accident on the 9th of September 1944. (See Sunday Mail 10th September 1944, Page 5) on Trove Newspapers. William was buried in the Lutwyche Cemetery in Monumental Portion 10 Section 80A grave 6. This is where it got interesting! in the Courier Mail newspaper on the 25th of September 1944, Page 6. There is a notice "The FAMILY of the late William LUXTON wish to THANK all the relatives, friends and neighbours for all the telegrams, floral tributes and messages of sympathy in the recent sudden loss of their beloved father. Please accept this as their personal thanks. (now... Mary Agnes or Agnes Mary.. whichever! was still alive.. This made me thing that perhaps they had split) So I checked the electoral rolls... I knew from the newspaper article that William LUXTON lived in Nansen Street, Northgate at the time of his death so I thought I would start there. In 1925 they were living together at Highfields, in Samford. In 1937 William was living at Nansen Street, Northgate... as was their son George William. however Mary was living at Massy's slaughter yard Bootooloo. (which is in Bowen) In 1943 William and George were at Nansen Street Northgate.. And Mary was still at Bootooloo. Near Bowen (Home Duties) Now I haven't figured out if she was living with family up there as yet.. So I will keep digging and get back to you. George (their son ) had an accident in 1940 losing his leg... see (Cairns Post 19th October 1940 page 4.) which makes sense why he was living at home in 1943. I hope that all of this helps somehow.... Kind Regards Sue. 3. 1968 Martin John Garrett, student, 76 Herston Road, Kelvin Grove, M Sarmite Mary Garrett, nurse, same address, F Regarding the missing on Voyager. According to Wikipedia, the missing were declared dead on 17 February (a week after the collision). People who go missing at sea or in aircraft often end up without death registration if there is no body and no circumstances in which any country/state believe their death registration requirements are met (which usually include having died in that place or on route to it). The relevant ACT legislation http://www.legislation.act.gov.au/a/1963-17/19980625-39338/pdf/1963-17.pdf would suggest that if someone died on a ship on route to the ACT, the deaths would be registered in the ACT by the ship's master (see section 28 1 b) on arrival. But ... Voyager never arrived. So perhaps the criteria for *registering* the death was not met with no body and no arriving ship. Those bodies which were recovered were brought to shore on another ship, the master of that ship could register their deaths. So it may be some crazy technicality in the legislation which is why you cannot find death registrations. Kerry

    3. Hi Bev I don't have any L'Estrange people in my trees but I used to work on trucks owned by Tommy L'Estrange in the late 70's possible early 80's. He and another fellow, Keith Jakes owned or drove for a company named Munduberra Freightlines and the used to cart all the citrus. Tommy used to drive an old Transtar and Keith a B model Mack. Tommy died in a truck accident and Keith committed suicide a couple of years later. I'm sure Tommy used to live at Coopers Plains in Brisbane - somewhere near Celtic street. I think at the time he had a couple of kids, a boy and a girl but I'm not 100% sure. Funny how a different name gets stuck in your head. 3. Thanks Janet. Yes there were lots of Garretts in Winton but I can't really recall where Martin lived as I did not know him until I went to Abergowrie College at Ingham in 1954. I went to school in Winton for a short while in the late 40s but I went to the State School and Martin went to the Convent so I did not know him then. I did board for a while with some Garretts in Winton and went to school (state) for a very short while but can't even now remember their names or when it was but think it was in Vindex Street. I remember it was Jack Garrett who lived in Elderslie Street. He was my father's best man. 3. Thanks for that info Wynette. I had noticed the Martin John Garrett on Ancestry on the roll in Brisbane in 1968 and intend to check that out when I can get to our local library. He does not appear on the roll ever again in Australia. The Martin Garrett who was married in 1953 would not be the one I went to school with in 1954 at Ingham in Qld. Nor would he be the one who was killed in the crash of the Flying Doctor plane in 1953 near Charters Towers. I remember that crash as I was going to school in Charters Towers in 1953. Regards Ian

    3. Hi Ian, A quick Google brought up an ancestry page with a Martin John GARRETT registered on the electoral roll in Brisbane in 1968. There was only the one entry. I was unable to access the original record from there. You could do so from your local public library with your library card. However, I am wondering if this could be your friend, as he was a pilot. If so, he died tragically young. He had only been married less than a year. I think you would recognise him from the photograph if it is he. http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article23243657 http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article2896003 There are more Trove articles on this tragedy. 3. Hi Ian & Margaret It seems that there were only 3 bodies recovered from the HMAS Voyager incident and these deaths were registered with the ACT BDM. There is an Historic Death Index which you can access and the 3 are registered.
