    1. Re: [AUS-QLD] Qld Co-Operative Cash Store - c1915
    2. Kerry Raymond
    3. I think "cash and carry" was a generic term for those "new-fangled" grocery stores where you picked the goods yourself, paid at a checkout and then carried them away (i.e. like any supermarket today), as opposed to a traditional grocer's where you gave them your list and the delivery boy brought the goods around to your house later and you had an account with the grocer which you paid from time to time. I don't think "cash and carry" stores were necessarily co-ops. I remember the Brisbane Cash & Carry company which operated stores at Annerley and Coorparoo in my childhood. We used to go from Yeronga School (I think) about once a month to West End to do "Domestic Science" classes, learning cooking and sewing. 3. Mary I found and gave to you Catherine Musgrave (nee O'Reilly)'s death date and registration, you will have to buy her death certificate to see where she is buried... Thought they were in the hotel 1914... the marriage in New South Wales is 1897, 12 months after Catherine died, plenty of time to move state and heaps of time between 1897 and 1914 to come home again. They were alot more mobile in those days than now... Buy the certificates Mary, they will answer some questions. 3. Yes, we wondered who this Emily Jane (Galbraith)Musgrave was. Henry was supposed to have married Catherine O'Reilly in 1896 and I found the death of their first child Catherine the same year. Wonder if the mother died in childbirth but I cannot find her death. And if he married in 1897, is it them who were running the Wolfram Hotel, Chillagoe, North Qld, in 1814. Still a puzzle. Thanks for that info Jenelle, another one to check out. 1. [AUS-QLD] HENRY AND JANE MUSGRAVE : KLONDYKE
    2. Jenelle McCarrick
    3. Mary, They are on the roll till 1913 at Klondyke, Chillagoe, (if you google Klondyke, Chillagoe, you will find some information). If Henry was a Licencee, contact State Archives for that information, jane must have died 1919, he appears on the rolls in the Chillagoe area till 1930, as a cook... Did you look for the death of any Musgave, besides Henry from the Cairns City Council cemetery on the BDM.... up to 1929 on line, 1964 on fiche. Did you look for the birth of any children for Henry and Jane. Jenelle.

    3. All I could suggest is that you get his Death Cert. I haven't done much Qld research (only two rellies that I know of went that way) so not sure what is available up there. There is a woman with a website who has all sorts of records - some are available for free, some you have to pay for. But can't remember what her name is. She is a genealogist. You might also ask Brisbane Hospital if they have an Archivist - or what happened to their old records. You might also try looking up cemetery records in Brisbane area. Although I wonder if he was a sailmaker on a ship (spose they had them on board). Might not have ended up with a permanent headstone. Just noticed I spelt pht... incorrectly. Sorry about that. But I do what it is - have a long line of rellies who died from it. Also, have you tried other spellings of Olsen - Olson, Old... perhaps? I've got some good old Irish Kavanaghs and its amazing how that could be rendered!! Barbara

    3. Thanks Janelle, Actually I phoned the State Library in Queensland and they have suggested I get in touch with the Qld Archives which I have just done, requesting a look up of an inquest into a Hotel fire in Qld. with the deaths of Henry Musgrave and wife Jane. The electroll Roll shows them running a Hotel at Wolfram via Chillagoe in 1914. Will also check the Cairns Post Archives as you have suggested. Possibly the Henry Musgrave in Cairns Cemetery could be another person, but if this death took place in 1929-30, then the age is correct as he was born in 1862. Will do as you suggested and ask the Council about this burial. Thanks for all your help with this...it is turning out to be a big mystery. 3. Hello List, Thankyou to all the people who have helped me with any information regarding Henry MUSGRAVE and his family. I have found out quite a lot about him, except his death. Henry MUSGRAVE b.1862, (son of Henry MUSGRAVE d.1877 Buried in Toowong Cemetery Brisbane and Julia RYNG Musgrave d.1891). m. Kate Ide McELROY ,b.1861, daughter of Peter McELROY and Catherine SMITH Kate d. 1891, aged 30 and is buried in Bundaberg Catholic Cemetery with daughter Vera Lucy who died in 1885. Children 1. Vera Lucy Musgrave b.1884 2. Herbert Cecil Musgrave b.1885 3. Alice Muriel Musgrave b.1887 4. Irene Ethel Musgrave b.1888 5 Gertrude Ide Musgrave, b.1890, m. First one in Bundaberg where no one was hurt, which I have found in a newspaper report and a second fire in which her parents perished, and that she and her siblings were put into an orphanage but not sure of the date. Gertrude was very frightened of fires . It was the 2nd unknown Hotel fire that caused the parents death. This is my stumbling block as I cannot find any information about Henry perishing in a fire or an inquest into any fires. Kate Musgrave Henrys wife, died in 1892 and Henry married a 2nd time to Catherine O'REILLY in 1896. Their daughter, Catherine, died the same year. I have no information about mother Catherine's death. Henry Musgave is then found in 1914 Electroll Roll in Wolfram, near Chillagoe, Nth Qld, in a Hotel with the leasee known as Jane Musgrave, his wife. Again no marriage found to Jane. The last information I have found is a grave in Cairns Cemetery for a Henry MUSGRAVE aged 67, who according to his birthdate, this must be 1929 also another baby Musgrave aged 0 but no Jane Musgrave. If anyone on the list has some connection to this family or has access to any information about Henry and his wifes death, please contact me. It would clear up this mystery once and for all. 3. Hi Lorrae, Yes, the slope makes for a handy multi-story carpark now (in a suburb famed for the difficulty of getting a park). I wonder if there was a coronial inquest for your Samuel POLLARD? Good luck, Deb -----Original Message----- From: aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Lorrae Subject: Re: [AUS-QLD] C1915 - Tramway Fitter at Paddington Thanks Alan and Deb Now that makes sense too. The link Deb provided showed that: It was on the side of a hill and was largely timber and corrugated iron panels. The front of the depot was at street level, but owing to the slope of the site, the rear of the depot was supported by a forest of timber supports, some over 50 feet (15 m) high. The State Library of Qld shows: http://blogs.slq.qld.gov.au/jol/2009/06/01/paddington/ 1915 - Paddington Tram Depot constructed. Samuel POLLARD died on 2 April 1915 as a result of an accident at work - he was a Tramway Fitter. I need to do more research here to determine his cause of death - more than what would be recorded on his death cert.
