Good morning Gloria, 1913 Qld Electoral Roll: Laura QUIRK, housewife, living Franz Road, Toombul 1922 Qld Electoral Roll: Laura QUIRK, home duties, Merinda, 137 Baines Street, Maree, Oxley She is not on the 1903 or the 1934 Queensland Electoral Rolls. Have a nice day, even if it is a hot one.. Cheers Janet
Hello again list Before Laura Quirk married Thomas, she was married to Samuel McKeown. If anyone has the Qld electoral rolls for Kennedy (which takes in Charters Towers/Ravenswood) for 1903 and 1905, could they look up the addresses for a Laura McKeown in them please? Thank you Gloria
Kerry has helped me a lot with some electoral rolls and burial records for Laura and her husband but I was wondering if anyone had access to the Qld Electoral rolls for 1908, 1913, 1919 and 1925 as I was looking for the addresses at which Laura Quirk was living at those times. In 1908 she is on the electoral roll for Herbert, which is a Townsville district. In 1913 she is registered for Lilley, on the north side of Brisbane In both 1919 and 1925 she is registered for Oxley, on the other side of Brisbane. If anyone can assist with addresses for these I'd very much appreciate it. Regards Gloria
Sue......what details are you looking for.....? I can check the Index for a particular person......locally ....but if you want more details, would have to visit the Archives......if they were assisted, it would be listed online. Hi Kerry Using the CD version of the NSW Pioneers index I just had a look at all the Philips/ Phillips baptised between 1848 & 1852 to see if any jumped out at me :-) One did .............. Indexed under the surname 'Aboriginal ' is a Philip Williams V1852 894 56 Windsor He comes up in the on line indexes too A possibility ??? If your friend thinks so suggest they get a transcription of this record . These cost abt $9. While these docs usually have very little extra info you need to know WHAT extra info is Bye MargM QLD List Admin
On behalf of a friend, can anyone shed in any light on what became of Philip WILLIAMS and Grace SOMERS. According to the birth certificate of their son Philip, Philip Williams (the father) was born c1850 in Sydney, but no NSW birth/baptism has been found. According to the birth certificate of their son Philip, Grace Somers (the mother) was born c1860 in Kent England. Unlike Philip Williams, Grace Somers is a relatively rare name and FreeBMD has a birth registered in Dec quarter 1860 in Greenwich Kent England and the 1861 and 1871 census show her as the daughter of Worthy & Emma SOMERS both born Wiltshire. Although we can find the parents Worthy and Emma and siblings in the 1881 census, there is no sign of Grace living with them or elsewhere in England (at 21 it is reasonable that she had left home). Grace Somers (with the correct age) appears in the Qld State Archives list of unassisted immigrants, as immigrating in 1884, so we think we know where this lady comes from. We know that they had 3 illegitimate children Philip, Elizabeth and Thomas in Queensland between 1885 and 1890. Philip the eldest was born in Rockhampton and Thomas was born in Brisbane. Elizabeth was born "C", so possibly Rockhampton again. Note the father's name is listed in all 3 birth indexes and in Philip (the son)'s birth certificate, despite the children being illegitimate. We speculate that Philip William (the father) may have been already married (why else wouldn't he marry the woman with whom he had 3 children that he happily acknowledged as being his?). After 1890, the parents Philip WILLIAMS and Grace SOMERS disappear off the radar. No sign of marriages or deaths for them to 1929 (QLD BDM online). Can SKS check for marriages and deaths beyond 1929 please. No sign of them in the electoral roll (there are a number of Grace WILLIAMS but all of them occur in family groups which don't match in other ways). No sign of them in NSW BDMs or Ryerson Index etc. The children Philip and Thomas remain in Queensland (not sure what became of the daughter Elizabeth). We know what became of son Philip in some detail already. It is believed that Grace Somers may have lived in Rockhampton working as a seamstress, but the source of this story is unclear. So, we would welcome any insights into the origins of Philip Williams (born c1850 in Sydney) and what became of him and Grace Somers after 1890. Thanks Kerry
Can SKS please lookup the Qld death of Charles Potter (died about 23 July 1943) please. I am interested to know the exact date of death (what I have might be a burial date) and the names of his parents. Since he is buried in Toowong Cemetery in Brisbane, I assume he died in Queensland. Thanks Kerry
If anyone is interested in the KOPPs on the Herschel in 1871, then get in touch as I am a descendant.
