Correction. If it's a Central Queensland event, then you probably have to write to the Supreme Court in Rockhampton, who (from my experience of trying to get a probate file from them) will write back with a price for getting a copy of the documents, which you then pay and they then send you the photocopies. I don't think that there is an option to personally visit and view the records themselves. I am not sure why the Supreme Court in Rockhampton seem to hang onto all their old records instead of sending them to the State Archives. Hi Kerry is right you can get copies of a divorce file for 1940's... My Dad was divorced in 1943 and I was able to get the file from the State Archives at Runcorn....... you can just read the file or there is a charge to photo copy. Im not sure but I think I read somewhere where they will copy a file and send it to you if your out of town...... but that could be costly as they charge per page..... Hello Angela, If they were comming to N.Z from Qld, there were no shipping records kept at all, so you have to rely on Electrol Rolls and Newspapers. The fellow that we are looking for arrived in Bowen in 1872 and graduated from a Lutheran College in Germany in 1885 so we are unsure which year he would have left Do you mean all years or just 1873 - 1885? Thanks Sue and Rosemary. The person we are looking at would have gone back to Germany. Our hunch is that he arrived in Australia (Bowen) in 1872, with his family and went back to Germany and became a Lutheran minister and then came back to his family in Mackay. > Can anyone tell me if there is a list of people leaving Australia and if > so > where to find it? Can anyone tell me if there is a list of people leaving Australia and if so where to find it? I'm looking at the years 1873 - 1885. Thanks, Angela
Hello! Can somebody tell me how to find out about land selected or money paid for land in the Burri Burri district in 1917? I believe Burri Burri is in Queensland, near Jandowae and Chinchilla. With thanks Laraine Tarragindi
Gloria - Merinda had meatworks.. (its about 10-15km from Bowen). Try Picture Australia or picture Queensland to see if there are any photos of the hotel. >From the information you all provided, I have put in a time line for Laura from when she was married to Samuel McKeown to her life as Mrs Quirk. My guess is that in 1908, when the electoral roll shows her address as the hotel at Merinda (inland from Bowen I presume), she and her husband either owned or had the licence there, and that it was not just a residential address. This is merely an assumption as, in years to come, she named her house "Merinda", indicating there was some close association. We are driving down to Brisbane later today (oh how quickly one forgets how bad all that traffic can be!!!) so may do some chasing up down there if I get a chance. In the meantime, thank you all who have helped with this. Gloria

Thank you Jenelle Between you Kerry and Janet I have just about confirmed Laura's identity, as I have been able to track her movements and put her in the same place the same time as others. I thank you both very much. It seems that the house in Baines Street, Kangaroo Point was named after the hotel ....Kerry did say that the electoral roll showed that there were many houses with 'names' in that street. Regards Gloria
