    1. Re: [AUS-QLD] QLD BDMS ~~~~- WILD CARDS ARE ESSENTIAL
    2. Gloria Sheehan
    3. A 'wild card' option in the BDM's would indeed assist researchers as errors do occur...whether it's through informant, registrar, or transcription error. I think we know, and accept that they happen but it certainly doesn't make checking any easier. I searched for a marriage in which the groom's surname was 'Ireton' but couldn't locate it. Then I was told that the bride had previously been married so did a search under her married name rather than her maiden one, and found that the groom's surname was under 'Treton'. This is quite understandable as a script capital 'I' and 'T' can appear similar, depending on the hand. I had also been told of another child born to the couple but had not been able to find the registration so, after locating the marriage, looked again for a birth under 'Treton'.....there she was! Simple names have only a few variations that cut down the number of times you'd have to search but others can be a nightmare. Then again, most genies I know are tenacious and just keep on trying until they find what they're looking for. :) Gloria

Why isnt a year enough ???? Thats all you need to use the NSW or VIC data . Having to type 2 range dates as dd/mm/yy if you're searching as not sure is being very pernickety indeed ............. The KISS principle is needed Bye MargM QLD List Admin

    3. Hi Marge, > ,can you ask why who ever designed this > site had to be pernickety with > the date format < Yes, I'll do that..as well, but it seems that there are plenty of concerns... such as the Codes for B and C, the date format, the mistranscriptions, and probably several others.. I suggest that EVERYONE with a concern write to the justice Dept, each noting their concern...rather than just one person write and complain.. They should then see that they can't just rest on their laurels, and they need to refine the site a lot more.to meet the needs of the public.. Cheers Gay

    3. I was looking for the deaths of my cousins Dorothy Catherine b1912 & Hazel Abey b1910 Smith under their parent's names in case they had married after the marriage cutoff time but it wouldn't go thru without a surname. I'm sure it worked that way before. How to find them without the married surname, that is the question. Cheers. 2. Gay Fielding
    3. My Habermann ancestor had thirteen children...12 of whom I was able to find on the Qld Digger CD using wildcards... There were SIX different spellings for the surname. I used just the first letter of the surname and the * wildcard..and refined this by using just the first letter and the * wildcard for the christian names of the parents..There is no way that I can find these on the new Qld BDM site... These are the names from the Digger CD, some of which are on the new site, but without the previous knowledge or wildcards, I would never have found them.. 1868/992Frederick Hebermann Frederick WilliamSusan Harvey 1877/201Louisa Maria Hebermann Frederick WilliamSusannah Harvey 1865/1320 William Hehermann Frederick William Susan Harney (incorrect spelling of mother's surname) 1866/1623Sarah HebirmannFrederick WilliamSusan Harvey 1870/1013Lavinia Kathleen HebirmannFrederick WilliamSusan Harvey 1871/1018Mary Jane HebinmannFrederick WilliamSusan Harvey 1873/000632 Susanna Hebirmanns Frederick William Susan Harney (incorrect spelling of mother's surname) 1883/375ArthurHabermannFrederick WilliamSusannah Harvey 1883/373HenryHabermannFrederick WilliamSusannah Harvey 1881/319John AlexanderHabermannFrederickSusan Harvey 1879/204Herbert HarveyHabermannFrederickSusan Harvey 1885/654Ernest HarveyHabermannFrederick William Susannah Harvey I will contact the Justice department and lodge my concerns...I am sure I am not the only one with this problem.. 3. Gay wrote ..... "It seems they typed 'h' instead of 'k' for his death record..because his birth below is registered correctly as FREDERICK ." Could have been transcribed from the registers incorrectly - old type handwriting and all ..... But not always can we blame it on "them" - lots & lots of time it is the fault (for want of a better word) of the informant. When my Mum died, I was the informant and the undertaker was taking down the details. When the death cert. came back it had my married surname as the surname of my mother's father !!! I know I hadn't given the wrong details - I had two sisters there at the time who would have picked up on it .... Had to be done again ... Cheers Lynne

Found him in Free BMDs John Henry CUER 2nd qrt 1892 Hinckley, Leicestershire. Found him in the 1901 census, son of John W & Elizabeth and in Findmypast migration records . Came here on the steamer " Limerick" which departed London for Brisbane 21 Dec 1912 . He is in the Qld electoral rolls from 1919 . No real refs in the National Archives , no CUERs in the WW2 roll data base. Only one lonesome CUER in the current on line AUS Whitepages living in Sydney and 2 in NZ whitepages Maybe they went back to England ?? CUER seems to be quite a common surname around the Leicestershire area There is a Lorraine who lists quite a few CUERs of Hinckley, Leicestershire. including a John b 1892 in Genesreunited ???
