    3. Go the Qld State Archives - http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/ - and start from there. On the left hand side, click on Indexes and, from the list which comes up, click on Assisted Immigration 1848-1907. You have to scroll down to the list of PDF Files (including Ohlenn - Oxtoby). Cheers (Another) Barbara

    3. You would probably need to look at the Immigration Lists at Fremantle Western Australia as any ships coming across the Indian Ocean probably called at Fremantle before coming east, I understand they have a large listing over there. 3. Stephen The Qld Death Index only goes to 1964 officially, and as the Qld Reg Gen is now working under the 100 year closure thing due to the Privacy Act we may not get any more for some time. Do you have an idea as to where they may have lived as there are a lot of cemeteries on line. also the societies also have cemetery lists and also at GSQ we have funeral directors indexes and access to the copies of their records. I asked another list and I have had a reply as to the whereabouts of the family in 1901. George was born about 1892 according to his age at time.I also found a death of maybe his mother in 1905. I'll keep hunting. Merry Christmas to all Cheers Chris ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara Robinson" <bro51909@bigpond.net.au>

    3. Hi there Shirley, I just checked the Qld immigration lists http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/downloads/Indexes/immigration/Ohlenn-Oxtoby.pdf which go to 1912, but could find no match for you. Other major points of immigration in Australia were Sydney (NSW), Melbourne (VIC) and also Perth (WA). You might be able to find some immigration lists for those cities. I'm pretty sure that ancestry.com.au has some major lists for Sydney. As to requirements for personal identification - I can't be sure. If this is post 1911 then I'm sure that some form of identification might have been required - esp. from England. However, I'd recommend that you be "creative" regarding the way that names were recorded and spelled in those times. If you have the name of the ship that would help a great deal. Sorry I can't help you further. -- Stephen Nicholson On 20 Dec 2009, at 9:32 PM, shirleycarpenter@aol.com wrote: > Please can any lister help me with this? > > I am trying to trace an Elizabeth Osman who went to Australia it > would have > been after 1911 but then returned to England.

    3. After an "annus horribulus microsoftus vista", I have finally been able to resume indexing on the headstone photos. The solution was to resurrect my old laptop running Microsoft XP; we just gave up on getting anything to work on Microsoft Vista :-( Anyhow, new to our collection of SE Qld headstone photos and transcriptions are: * Mudgeeraba cemetery, Gold Coast This is a relatively large and still very active cemetery. Indeed, when we visited, they were in the process of landscaping extensive new areas out behind the existing lawns. If you have forgotten where to find our site, it's at . http://www.chapelhill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Photos/ What's coming up next? Nanango Old cemetery & Nikenbah cemetery at Hervey Bay, both of which are quite small. Then onto some larger ones, the two Pimpama cemeteries at the northern end of the Gold Coast. Kerry & David

    3. Just had a thought (even in the middle of a rainy afternoon in BNE) that if he came in the 1920s, by boat, the first port of call would have been Fremantle WA, they had a Museum over there in relation to Immigration, that might be worth a try, and he could have gotten off the ship at any port and then eventually came to Qld.
