Hi jan, Thank you for that, What you have sent is great. I don't have access to Electoral rolls. I have found a lot on Trove for Joseph and his brother Frederick. They were getting accolades for their music and also getting into trouble for drinking too much. There is a Laurie Menadue who was researching Helos Menadue family. I could have been intouch with yu in the past but not sure. I do remember helping someone in Q who was doing it for a friend who knew very little so it was most likely you. I have helped a lot of people over the years, this one is difficult as he doesn't appear to have divorced or remarried but Bertha is listed as his wife. It looks like he married Ellen to do the right thing but left because the baby died. Bertha's husband appears to have been alive til 1937. Ellen continued to be in touch with the Menadue family until her death in 1956 when she was buried with her father, Charles Osborne in Gympie. I have a broken right arm at the moment so writing is difficult, can I send you some charts so you can see where everyone fits in? I would particularly love to find out what is in the Queensland Police Gazette 1901, page 32 Warrant issued in Cooktown(?) for the arrest of Joseph Menadue, charged with deserting his....? And any other information regarding this, I assume it was his wife. Joseph was married to Ellen nee Osborne 6 Oct 1900she had a son on 6 Nov 1900 and he died the next day. By 1914 he was living with a Bertha Mary Ashman who was also married. They were both prominent musicians in the Gympie area and bertha calls herself mrs Menadue. Hi Janet I'm wondering if your Charles Coles disappeared or did he hang around, marry and have a family. I'm trying to find my grt. grandfather Charles Coles but only have details of him from 1900 to 1928 when he died. I have no idea where he really came from or who his parents were as everything stated on any certs. never pans out. On his Death Certificate it states he'd been in all the states for 47 years and when he died he was supposedly 56 which would make a birthdate of around 1872. He always stated his father was also Charles and his mother Ellen Cohan and that he was from Stockton-on-Tees. None of this is on record that I can find. Also, it would have been Durham at that time and he'd have known that had it been true so again, suspect? I'm just going through all the Charles Coles I can find to eliminate each one as I go along.
