    3. Many thanks Jim - I have signed up and searched the Trove site. I did turn up a story of his rescue from drowning in the1930s. It is possible that his main cycling achievements happened before he arrived in Australia in 1921 - I will keep hunting though David Sent from my iPad On 3 Sep 2012, at 08:00, [email protected] wrote: > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. 3. Hello David, I would strongly advise that you start here: http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/search?adv=y These are our digitised newspapers, freely available to all. I just clicked on the Queensland papers, put Charlie Newman in the "phrase" line and got four hits. There were three for Rockhampton, one for Townsville (both towns in northern Queensland) and one in Brisbane. I would certainly try all forms of his name and see what you come up with. I only found one for an Ernest Charles Newman. He was visiting Southport from a little town called Goodna, (now virtually a sattelite suburb of Brisbane) and got into difficulties swimming in the surf and had to be rescued. There were 72 hits for a Charles Newman, starting in 1861 and finishing in 1951. There were 99 for an Ernest Newman, starting in 1895 and finishing in 1952. Do you have his death? You can search the BDM indexes online. You might have to search for the cyling in creative ways if his name doesn't come up immediately. I have noticed in previous research, in some older sporting reports, first names are not always used, Only surnames. Cheers, Wynnette. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Evans" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, August 31, 2012 9:50 PM Subject: [AUS-QLD] Family research Queensland > Hello > > Thank you for your message. 3. Thanks everyone for the links and information on the Stobo girls. I thought they may have been cremated as quite a few others in the extended family were. Quite a few doctors in the family too. I also found that Joyce was in Kingaroy also in 1925, relieving for Dr Ellen Kent-Hughes. I had a feeling they would have known her and why they came up here. Dr Kent-Hughes was also a member of the Kingaroy Shire Council at that time. She has had the new forecourt named in her honour. Sandra

    3. Well, this couple certainly move around. I found them in the electoral rolls in Fremantle WA 1931, Sydney NSW 1933, Thursday Island QLD 1936, Brisbane QLD 1937 1943, Canberra ACT 1949, and then back to Brisbane 1954 onwards. Mollie last appears in the 1963 electoral roll and Donald in 1977 (consistent with him dying in 1979 as you stated). To find out where they were buried/cremated, I suggest you check the Brisbane City Council online burials (it's not working at the moment or I would have checked myself) and then, if they were Catholic, the Nudgee cemetery (also online). If they don't turn up in these, then they were most likely cremated. If Mollie died in the mid 1960s, there was only one crematorium then -- Mt Thompson (no online records so you have to ask them and hope they are helpful) http://www.mtthompsoncrem.com.au/driver.asp?page=mountthompson/contact+us When Donald died in the 1970s, there would also have been the Albany Creek Crematorium to consider http://www.albanycreekcrem.com.au/driver.asp?page=/contact+us but if Mollie was cremated at Mt Thompson then most likely so was Donald.
