Hi Jan Thank you for those addresses. Boy it sure does sound difficult. My biggest problem is that I do not know whether he served in the Navy, Army or Air Force and how he came to join the US forces and not the Aus??? I do not like my chances as I am limited to what information I can supply. I do know that he was sent to PNG at some time and ended up staying there and that is where he died and is buried. I am also having a lot of trouble getting a copy of his death certificate from PNG. Cheers Marg. ________________________________
Morning all Looking for advice on how and where to search to find an Australian man who joined one of the American forces during WW2. I would like to be able to access his file if possible. Any help would be great. Kind regards Marg

Hello Listers,Does anyone on this list have knowledge of any badges/medallions or similar produced with the inscription in a semi-circle across the top - "CWC & D League"? The rest of the badge has a raised section in the middle, and a olive/fern leaves radiating upwards from a central point at the bottom. It would be dated c1920 according to the inscription on the back, but whether this is when it was acquired, made or earned, is unknown. Thanks for any info or ideas,Estelle

Does anyone have any connection to a John William SCRASE born in Ditchling UK 1814 son of William SCRASE and Sarah MARCHANT I have found the name spelt with a C and a S... John William died in 1877 in Hospital. information on his death certificate states he was single and had been in Australia for about 14 years.. I havent found when he came into Australia yet... or his occupation... A newspaper article states he died "Intestate" leaving only a Portmanteau Carpet Bag some clothes and cash..... I will be at the Archives next week so will look at the file to see if there is anymore info on him. of all the entries for SCRASE/SCRACE on the Queensland Pioneer Index and the Qld. Federation Index only 3 -I havent been able to connect to my SCRASE Family and this John William is one.... I feel he may connect back in England somewhere..... a Cousin in Sussex is working on that Family now to see if there is a connection. In the meantime I am trying to find out more about his stay in Queensland...where he lived and what he did... Any ideas on how I would find more info on this gentleman would be appreciated Jan.

Looking in the electoral rolls finds these other Harris's living with Guy & Iris at Pine View, Tara. 1954: Ivor Harris, labourer Irene Louisa Gordon Harris, home duties 1958: Ivor Harris, labourer Irene Louisa Gordon Harris, home duties 1963: Ivor Harris, labourer Irene Louisa Gordon Harris, home duties 1968 Ivor Harris, labourer Irene Louisa Gordon Harris, home duties 1972: Ivor Harris, labourer Irene Louisa Gordon Harris, home duties James Donald Harris, station hand Paul Guy Harris, grazier 1977: Ivor Harris, labourer Irene Louisa Gordon Harris, home duties James Donald Harris, station hand Lynette Anne Harris, home duties Paul Guy Harris, grazier 1980. It looks like they have left Pine View. Here's where the 1977 folk ended up 1980: Guy (no occupation) & Iris (home duties) are now living at 59 Binnie Street, Tara Ivor Harris, 2 Day Street, Tara, [no occupation] [Irene -- not listed] James Donald Harris, Antrim via The Gums, shearer Kathleen Elizabeth Harris, 56 Binnie Street, home duties [same address as Paul Guy] Lynette Anne Harris, Antrim via The Gums, home duties Paul Guy Harris, 56 Binne Street, silo operator Although the electoral rolls don't show us relationships, the time frames suggest Ivor & Irene might be brother and sister-in-law (or maybe father & mother at a pinch). It looks like there are 2 sons James Donald & Paul Guy, but are they the children of Guy & Iris or of Ivor & Irene? Lynette Anne and Kathleen Elizabeth are presumably the wives of James & Paul respectively. Irene appears to be Eirene Louisa Thompson, born 12 Sep 1910 New England, NSW, daughter of Frank Gordon Thompson & Frances M Kennedy Kerry -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Val Stewart Sent: Monday, 3 September 2012 10:47 AM To: Aus-Qld Subject: [AUS-QLD] HARRIS / HOLCROFT Family.....
