    3. Hi Janet Thanks for your reply. Have had a look at the rolls but seem to have missed the 1922 ones. He is at Bell's Hotel in 1919 and 1925 and then at Cunnamulla Road until 1943 and he died just after that. He was gassed in World War 1. Annie was a diabetic and died in 1925 aged 27. No children. Some of the Kellys have tragic stories. Annie was not as bad as her first cousin who died on her honeymoon (TB). Hugh Robinson FAGAN was John's brother which I did not know until I did some research on him today. Yeah, I agree, only the certificate will tell me where they were married and I'm not prepared to do that just for that bit of info. Perhaps they should privatise the Qld BDMs and then they might just charge us a small fee if we just want a bit of info but not the whole certificate. 2. Barbara OConnor
    3. The Australian War Memorial - www.awm.gov.au - has a nominal roll of (nearly all) enlistments in WW1. This roll also gives the dates of Return to Australia, Killed in Action, Died of Wounds, or Died of Disease. The individual files have been digitised by the National Archives and are available for viewing on www.naa.gov.au. I think, though, that you may need to revise the year of death. The first Australian battle fatality was in 1914, but he was a sailor. The AIF was not engaged in battle until 1915 at Gallipoli and 1916 in France. But there were also deaths due to accident or illness prior to engagement. Family memories/beliefs can let us down sometimes. For years one of mine was believed to have died in battle in France and was buried there. Turns out he was wounded in France, September, 1918, transported to England where he died of TB on Christmas Day, 1918. So very, very sad. A couple of other things you might consider. Around that time there were many ships on the coastal and island routes and it was a common method of transport. Michael Mahony may have left Rockhampton for somewhere else to say goodbye to loved ones and enlisted there. He may have enlisted in British forces, possibly in New Guinea, so if you can't track him down in the AIF, try that avenue. Could he have used another forename (do you have his birth registration?) or surname? A lot of Irish families, particularly Catholic families, were opposed to their sons fighting England's wars , understandable given prior history. If he did, you will need a lot of luck to find him. I have a rellie who took the opportunity to do a runner from his wife by changing his name at enlistment. Luckily for me, he reverted to his correct name after the death of his wife, admitted what he had done, and requested that his pension be paid in his right name. Otherwise, I would never have found him. The army didn't seem to mind what information was given at enlistment. And don't forget there are different ways of spelling Mahoney. The site that Lorrae gave you - http://www.aif.adfa.edu.au:8080/search - can be searched by town only. A search using only Rockhampton brings up a James Mahoney, but he enlisted 1916, aged 43. You can also enter Michael and Rockhampton and bring up every Michael who enlisted and check them out. Could be handy if you're not sure what to do on you next holidays. There was a Michael Alepius Mahoney, aged 28, who enlisted at Victoria Barracks, Melbourne (or should that be Sydney? - he embarked from Sydney), NOK J T Mahoney, Clifton Hill, Victoria, on the ADFA site. He enlisted on 18 August, 1914 and embarked on 19 October, 1914. There's a NAA file for him, but it's spelt MAHONY. I couldn't open the digital copy, but hope you can. Good luck with your search, Barbara

    3. Hi Kerry Thanks for your thoughts - I will contact council just to see if they have further info on the burials. Joan Wilford Joseph O'SULLIVAN died 25/11/1904 1904/001439 no father and mother Isabella O'SULLIVAN, it was a country registration, not Brisbane Greg DAVIS We are discussing burials over 40 years apart and the baby was buried first. If the baby's burial was in a private grave, then it suggests some connection with the man, as the burial rights holder would have had to give permission. That would suggest some relationship but it could just be friendship. If the baby's burial was in a public grave, then it's probably just being re-used and there's probably no connection. Also, the database you found the information could have had a data entry error. They might not have been buried in the same grave. I'd be tempted to ask the council if a check could be made on the original burial registers for the two of them. Please remember to snip most of the earlier message before you post any reply......
