Hi Colin Notice your posting on RAABE. My mother is a KAPERNICK and I am writing family histories on the KAPERNICKS and there is a reunion in a week. Katherine RAABE b. 26 Apr 1889 Kirchheim, Qld d. 16 Sep 1978 Nanango, Qld, Australia m. 20 Mar 1912 Marburg, Qld Friedrich Wilhelm "Fritz" KAPERNICK b. 28 Jan 1869 Nanango, Qld Father: Wilhelm Friedrich KAPERNICK Mother: Hermine Auguste Louise SCHMIDT Fritz's father arrived in Queensland with his four eldest children onboard the "Dunbar Castle". They travelled up river on a barge after arriving at Moreton Bay. Another two brothers of his arrived in 1888- one of these brothers Hermann Friedrich Wilhelm was my gr-grandfather. It was said the Wilhelm, Fritz's father was a bit over fond of wine. He used to grow his own grapes and make his own. Hermine used to poison some of the vines sometimes, so there was not as much, and water down the wines in the bottles. One year, she poisoned all the vines! This greatly increased her popularity with her husband- not! Fritz and Kate- it seems she generally spelt her name Catherine even though on her birth certificate it is Katherine. They joined Fritz's sister and brother-in-law Fred and Anna KLEVE in being an early settlers at Coolabunia near Kingaroy. The Kleve's won the ballot when the land in this area was first opened up- the government was giving grants of land at a peppercorn lease by ballot to encourage settlement there. Fritz applied too and missed out, but a farmer later forfeited his land and Fritz was lucky. They were pioneers, clearing the scrub with an ax. They were heavily involved in the local community, and on the school committee, local hall commitee and were well known in the district. The eldest Kleve and Kapernick daughter used to always fight for top of the class and one always came first and the other second. Fritz's son Walter Harold "Jim" KAPERNICK (called Jim to distinguish him from three other Walter KAPERNICKS two of which lived in the South Burnett) was a well-known local cricketer and even I believe played for Queensland at one time. Bye the time Fritz's son Jim married, Fritz and Kate retired to Nanango and Jim took over the property. While Jim is dead, his unmarried daughter still lives on the original property with her mum. Jim has two sister both well into their 90s still living, one living in Victoria. I have visited both of them. The Kapernick name became well know and respected throughout the South Burnett and District. They were very sporty (Descendants have represented Australia at Olympic and Commonwealth games levels) and most were very community minded. What is your connection to these RAABE's Colin? Sarah J. Stuart HAMILTON and died 17/9/1902 Also had an email from Penny in NZ to say a girl by the name of Sarah Jane WAITE died 1950 aged 84 and is buried in Arundel Cemetery South Canterbury (the age at death and year of death together don't seem to be the same as the passenger list) Just asked in case someone else was researching this family, Thanks for your interest, Greg DAVIS On 27/10/2013 10:21 AM, Kerry Raymond wrote: > Is there anything more you can tell us (e.g. their parents?, where they > lived?) > > Kerry > > > -----Original Message----- > From: aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com] On > Behalf Of Greg > Sent: Saturday, 26 October 2013 8:51 AM > To: AUS-Qld > Subject: [AUS-QLD] WAITE - BALL > > Sarah Jane BALL married William WAITE in Brisbane 15/6/1886 and then > they seem to disappear from Queensland. > > Does anyone know these people and what happened to them ? > > Greg > Please remember to snip most of the earlier message before you post any > reply...... There is an ancestry tree that appears to have this couple. If so, Francis Michael White died in January 1984 and Iris Mary Luttrell (nee Bleazby), died 3 Dec 1990. Both died in Brisbane. Looking at the Courier-Mail microfilm (try the Ask A Librarian service at State Library of Queensland if you don't otherwise have access) will probably turn up death/funeral notices for them. -----Original Message----- From: aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Val Date Sent: Wednesday, 23 October 2013 1:33 PM To: aus-qld@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-QLD] WHITE FAMILY In 1977 Iris Mary & Francis Michael WHITE lived in Auchenflower, Qld. They are not in any of the Brisbane cemeteries that I could check, so there is a high probability they were cremated. I would suggesting asking at the two major crematoriums, Mt Thompson Crematorium and Albany Creek (no lookups available any other way).
