I have just tried to search Qld electoral rolls on ancestry and could not get anything in Qld, only nsw prior to 1902 So thought I was doing something wrong so did a search for someone for whom I had searched before and found several entries, but, nothing Has anyone else had a problem ? Greg
I always use the Old Search. My impression is that all the new improved searches are designed for people who want lots of results and don't care if they are getting the RIGHT results. Perhaps I am getting cynical in my old age lol. Vern On 17 November 2013 15:24, Kim <s_k_douglas@bigpond.com> wrote: > I agree Greg, the new search is tedious and less likely to produce results. > >

Kerry, Thanks for your suggestions - I found a couple of promising ‘Alexander Morrison’ listings in the NSW & WA death records but can’t be sure without buying each one as they don’t mention his parents (Duncan & Margaret Morrison nee Fraser). I believe none of his siblings in Victoria heard from him again after he visited the one time from Queensland. I will do a search on Trove in NSW and WA just in case he had his own family who may have placed a death notice. While looking at death notices on Trove I came across the following notice - ARMSTRONG.-On the 14th February, at Hawthorn,Bulimba, Connie, adopted daughter of M. Armstrong, aged 3 years. Family Notices. (1889, February 23). /The Queenslander /(Brisbane, Qld. : 1866 - 1939), p. 337. TROVE <http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article19811625> Because I have ARMSTRONGs and HODGSONs on the tree and 'Connie' was only 3 years old, I decided to do a little research and this is what I have found. Constance HODGSON died 14th February, 1889 and her parents were listed as William HODGSON and Mary STRICKLAND. Constance HODGSON aged 2 years arrived on the Chyebassa in Brisbane 3rd March, 1888. She was listed in steerage and there doesn't seem to be any association with any other passenger; there were males in their 20s and 40s listed before and after her and none of the surnames appear to be connected with the name HODGSON Constance was buried in the Balmoral Cemetery, Portion 1, #168 Then on 25th May, 1934, Mary Florence COOPER was buried in the same grave after she died the previous day and although I have not located her birth, her parents, James COOPER and Eliza MURRAY were married in Brisbane on the 29th of March, 1867. I haven't been able to find any other mention of the couple William HODGSON and Mary STRICKLAND on passenger lists or in the Qld BDM index from 1829 to 1983. I thought that M. ARMSTRONG may have been Mary STRICKLAND but as I said previously, I have not found any connection. I have posted this here in case someone is looking for Connie, Greg
I cannot find a Qld death that fits the details (all the deaths of Alexander Morrison in a plausible time period have parents listed and they aren't the right ones). Being a prospector, you would expect him to move around a fair bit, so I suggest checking all the BDMs in Australia to around 1940s. If his family knew he died, they may have placed a death notice in their local newspaper, even if he didn't die locally. So don't rule out sources local to the family even if he wasn't living there. The other place I would go looking is in any family notice in relation to the death of his parents, siblings, siblings-in-law, etc. Often death notice list the family members and often a location is noted for those who are not living locally. Also the failure to mention him might suggest they know he is already dead. As a general principle, I find that when you have a brick wall on someone, learn as much as you can about the extended family including in-laws, as often there is a vital clue to be found there. For those researchers who can't find someone dying in Qld, try only using one (1) christian name and in the mother's name just the word "born" and a date range, for example 1873 - 1956 and leave all the other boxes empty. You may have a lot of results to go through one at a time, BUT, you never know what you might find, Greg
There are a number of LAMB researchers who have published in the Darling Downs Biographical Register with whom I would welcome some correspondence, Greg

Hi, My name is Maria from Brisbane. I am researching the family of James Spencer Alexander Sivyer and Rose Adeline Dawson, married in Gympie on 14 June 1880. They had 6 children. Rose Adeline Dawson is the sister of my Great Grandmother, Eliza Ann Elizabeth Dawson. Both born in Middlesox London. If there are any descendants of either Sivyer or Dawson families, would you kindly contact me. I have some Dawson history that might be of interest. I am happy to share what details I have. Many thanks Cheers Maria Sent from my iPad
