1963 electoral roll: Maynard, Glenys Mary, 21 Princess Street, Townsville, teacher 1968 electoral roll: Maynard, Glenys Mary, corner South terrace and Albemarle St, Yerongpilly, teacher Nothing after that though in the electoral roll. No sign of a Qld death, so most likely she married. However, Glenys Mary isn't a common name, so I went looking in the later electoral rolls for any Glenys Mary's and found only one and, yes, she's a teacher. 1972 electoral roll: Acton, Glenys Mary, 41 Bell Street, Townsville, teacher 1980 electoral roll: Acton, Glenys Mary, 751 Ross River Road, Upper Ross via Townsville, teacher Living at the same addresses are William Kenneth Acton, listed as clerk and trust officer, who is presumably her husband. And the current White Pages has an entry for a couple of that description, still in the Townsville area: Acton W K & G M 11 McKillop St Belgian Gardens QLD 4810 (07) 4772 1361 Perhaps the lady and her correspondence can be reunited! -----Original Message----- From: aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of B. HI Kerry, Queensland State Archives has a couple of indexes online up until the early 1900's they might appear on these http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/Researchers/Indexes/Orphanages/Pages/Default.aspx There were many around Brisbane in that time... one of the major general ones would have been the Diamantina. Most religious orders would have had one however.. so best look for the families religious denomination and look for one in that "department" so to speak. Queensland State Archives hold the admission registers for quite a number of orphanages and infants homes. It would be worth searching their catalogue. http://www.archivessearch.qld.gov.au/Search/BasicSearch.aspx I do hope this helps! Hi I'm looking for family members and descendants of James DAVIES and Annie SIMPSON. James dies at Mitchelton in 1944 and Annie died in 1955. Their children included James Edward DAVIES (b 1899); Arthur Charles DAVIES (b 1901); Violet Elizabeth DAVIES (b 1906); and Grace Lilian DAVIES (b 1909). Violet married George REID in 1925. It appears Grace married several times, but her children were with her first husband Daniel John ROUGHAN, who she married in 1926. Regards Pete
Kerry there was also an orphanage in Rockhampton, because there were children sent there from Mackay from the Bucasia Orphanage in the 1800's when it closed down.... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Colin Larter" <cjlilarter@tadaust.org.au> To: <aus-qld@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 07, 2013 7:51 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-QLD] Wards of the state > One possibly was Nudgee Orphanage Brisbane > Colin >> Hi List, >> Hoping someone can point me in the right direction, looking for some >> children that were made wards of the state in early 1900's from Gympie. >> One >> later died in Ipswich in 1916. If they went to an orphanage first where might they have gone and is there anywhere online i can search? regards Kerry

I have recently found that Henrietta's grave records at Lutwyche Cemetery were listed under Sarter instead of Larter and had the records and on line records corrected. Would there be a person who has details of her husband Roy Larter or did he go under the name of either Roy Simpson or George Edward Roy Simpson. There are some details on Trove even as a child that he went under the names of Roy Larter or Roy Simpson. -- Regards Colin
Hi There was some discussion on the list recently whether electoral rolls are publicly available or not.. Some people went to the electoral office and they said in effect no. Well, they are: at the state library. I just rang them. They said the latest ones are not avaible on microfilm i.e.2013, but if you go to level 4, with your names you can look it up on the hard copy. Probably they would get sick of if they were helping you with dozens of names as I am about to do, but at least you should be able to look up uncommon names and get the latest addresses, or if you have specific names they will help you look them up. I would think its only if you looking up like a 100 they would question it. All old rolls- like for previous elections are available too- but as I understand it they are on microfilm. There: don't go to the electoral office. I had a feeling at the time that they were available. I know the electoral office only allows access to your listing, to correct a listing, or for election related purposes....eg if you were a candidate and needed to post a letter to everyone in your electorate. I guess if you are not in Brisbane, though, this does not help. Warm Regards Chris ------------------------- Email sent using Optus Webmail
