    1. [AUS-QLD] Look up Qld births on CD (KEENE)
    2. Ian & Margaret
    3. Hi Would someone who has access to the Queensland births on CD or Microfiche have a look for a record please? I have been trying for ages to find the birth on the online index of Edward Robert KEENE who was born in Qld on 4/4/1900 but have been unsuccessful. Yesterday I decided to just enter the exact date of birth (which I have never done before) and do a search. I soon found out you have to also enter one name so put in his first given name of Edward and up came the record. On the birth index his name is Edward Robert James HEINSKEENE. I have known for a while that Edward’s father is Charles Hines KEENE. The name Hines is an old family name from way back and is also used as a given name. I now know why I could never find the birth of Edward Robert KEENE. Is this a mistake on the online birth index or is it also the same on his original record in the birth register? I would like to check the birth on the CD/Microfiche to see what his surname is there. Thank you Ian Kelly Sandstone Point Queensland

George Pitchford THOMPSON married 1st August 1893/000228 to Lizzie PAYNTER. I would think they were in Eidsvold looking for gold... because my rellies were there, at that time, for that reason. Most of the Burial Index records are only taken from headstones - so if he did not have one, or it was made of wood, which rotted away with time, he will not be listed. Cheers Janet

    1. [AUS-QLD] George Pitchford THOMPSON & Elizabeth Jane PAYNTER
    2. Ian & Margaret
    3. Hi On 27 January I put a posting on the AUS-QLD list for information re the above couple who were married in Queensland in 1893. I have since found out that they were married in Eidsvold, Qld. They had several kids and then it was found out that George was already married. Then in 1905 Elizabeth (Lizzie) married Herbert Dare, a rellie of mine and had some more kids. Thanks to all who replied to my request for information on George Pitchford THOMPSON but we did not get far. I have now found out George’s correct name was George PITCHFORD. He only added the THOMPSON bit to cover his tracks. He is on the Qld Death Index in 1931. He died on 17 July in Roma, Qld. and is buried there but I cannot find him on a (perhaps incomplete) burial index. He was born in England in 1856. He also married twice in England and served 6 months for bigamy in 1884. I have found him coming out to Australia in 1874 and 1907. He gave his occupation as Master Mariner once. He even brought his first wife out and they lived in Roma and perhaps other places. I have found mention of him on Trove a couple of times in the Roma and other papers. George was also a Freemason in the Grand Lodge of Scotland (1885). Would anyone have any records of the Freemasons? So if anyone is researching George PITCHFORD I would be interested to get some more information on him. Such as what he was doing in Eidsvold when he married PAYNTER in 1905 and also what he was doing in Roma when he died. He had land in the Roma area (Trove). I have found one of his great grandsons in Brisbane and he did not know anything about his great grandfather being a serial bigamist. Cheers Ian Kelly Sandstone Point Qld

    1. [AUS-QLD] MORE on George Pitchford THOMPSON & Elizabeth Jane PAYNTER
    2. Ian & Margaret
    3. Hi A few days ago I posted a query to the list re the above people. Thank you to all who replied. Below is an edited copy of that posting: ”George married Elizabeth (Lizzie on the index) in Qld on 1/8/1893 and they had 6 children to 1903. She was born in the UK Then, allegedly, it was discovered that George was already married and his marriage to Elizabeth was annulled. Then in 1905 in Rockhampton, Qld, Elizabeth married Herbert DARE (a sort of relation of mine). Elizabeth is PAYNTER on the marriage index.” I have now been told by a grand daughter of Elizabeth & Herbert DARE that George Pitchford THOMPSON and Elizabeth Jane PAYNTER were supposed to have been married at Eidsvold and George’s father was John Pitchford THOMPSON and his mother was Johanna McCARTHY. I have found on the Qld BDM index where a George PITCHFORD died in 1931 and his parents were John PITCHFORD and Johanna McCARTHY. So was George’s name really George PITCHFORD and not George Pitchford THOMPSON? I have found where a George PITCHFORD, aged 17, arrived in Maryborough from London on “St James” on 24 July 1874. Parents are not shown on the the website (State Archives). Perhaps they would be shown on other records if there are any. I note on Trove and also the electoral roll there is a George PITCHFORD in WA. Now I would like to know if anyone has a George PITCHFORD in their family tree or can find out anything on him. Thank you Ian Kelly Sandstone Point Queensland
