As a direct descendant of my Grandfather, I was able to obtain his death certificate for 1961.However, I van not obtain the death certificate for my mothers brother who died in 1995. As he is another branch of the family I need written permission / authority from my cousin, his eldest son/ So long as direct descent can be proved there should not be a problem. Other states may differ in their rules, but this is the case for Qld. Perhaps there was confusion over the question of direct descent. I suggest you try again. If James was underage... he would have had to seek permission to marry from either his parents or he would have had to appear in front of the magistrate, might be worth a try seeing if there was an article relating to that in court records.. Sue.
The surname has to be wrong I reckon. Do you think if I can track down her hubby John Doyle, I might somehow figure it out. Hi Julie no I haven't got his parents names. I thought that would be why I needed to find his death first. I think I may have narrowed his birth down to 1836 in Manchester, England. At least I hope so. LOL Thanks for the help. Thanks Wendy. All the marriage certificate says that James Doyle was born in Toowoomba and married aged 17 years. He was a labourer, as was his father John Doyle. Mary Jane Reed was 21 years when married and was born in Blackall. Her father James Reed was a selector/carrier (not sure what that means) and lived in Springsure. The witnesses on the cert are William Alexander Horsfeld/t and Mary Ellen Horsfeld/t Vicki -----Original Message----- From: aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Wendy Bloomfield Sent: Tuesday, 16 December 2008 10:03 p.m. To: aus-qld@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [AUS-QLD] James DOYLE Hi Vicki, I understand your frustration. I am in the same situation with my great grandmother, and am waiting for the 1911 census from england to be released. Her marriage certificate did not help me either! Gee, your James Doyle and Mary Jane Reed certainly had a host of children! I checked their births to see if any of them had an unusual name, which may have been James mother's maiden name, no luck there. It is possible that James was born somewhere else, even another country, or on board a ship. I have found a lot of people back then were born somewhere, then moved when they were infants, and raised elsewhere, and they always thought that is where they were born. Having said all that - are there any other clues on the marriage certificate.......like....witnesses? What was James occupation when he married? Is his father's occupation listed? I am still checking all the sources I have here at home, and will let you know if I find anything or not.
