    3. Maree, He may not have died, just left home. It must have been very easy to just get "lost ", especially in a country as large as Australia. Did he drop his last name & became Herman ? My Gt Grandfather did this. He went back to England, ( his birth place ,) from New Zealand, married again, ( no apparent divorce ), & emigrated to Queensland, with his new very young wife & daughter. Has taken me more than 20 years to find him. Mary -----Original Message----- From: aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Lorrae Johnson Sent: Sunday, 21 December 2008 12:03 p.m. To: aus-qld@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-QLD] ZELLER family Hi list .. Maree is wondering if someone would be able to shed some light on this problem for her please ? Carl Franz Herman ZELLE or ZELLER arrived in Qld. on the ship "Susanne Goddefroy" on 17 January 1864. Carl Franz Herman ZELLE (aged 39) married 19 April, 1869 - Wilhelmine Elizabeth Louise KOENKE/(KOHNKE)(aged 24) m. 1869/C000317 (Document in Qld. says .. Herman ZELLE to Wilhelmina KOENKE.) Carl or Herman as he was sometimes known, "disappeared" between the birth of their daughter Ethel Hilda in 1881, and when his wife Wilhelmina remarried 10th January 1898/000576 to Edwin WEBBER. The 1903 Qld Electoral Roll found Edwin and Wilhelmine WEBBER living at Darley Flat, Pratten, Darling Downs. Wilhelmine Elizabeth WEBBER died in 1920 - Father: Diedrich KOENKE and Mother: Abel NOTHNAGEL. The problem is the disappearance of Carl Franz Herman ZELLER ... He is not listed on any death information .. Is there anyone who might be able to help her sort this problem out for Christmas .. ? regards, Maree Larsen ex Queenslander, now Hobart, Australia. It would appear that the Aus-Qld SE-German list have not been able to help. 3. Hello Lorrae, I had the same problem, as I could not find out what happened to my Grt Grnd Parents, eventually found a will this year for just a A. Croucher on Judy Websters List, sosent for it, and it told me A. Croucher had gone missing on the 4-11-1887. Four years after arriving in Australia. His wife was wanting to sell a small piece of land. It named all the boys etc.,so was well worth it, but still no death cert. It could be under the U or Unknown. He also could have remarried somewhere else to. 3. You are likely to find clues about Carl in the information about family members. What do you know of his parents and siblings? Is he mentioned in their death certificates or funeral notices (as appropriate)? > when his wife Wilhelmina remarried > 10th January 1898/000576 to Edwin WEBBER. When his wife remarries, what is her "condition"? Widow? Something else? There may be a clue there. Kerry

    3. Jeanette, marriages are online till 1929, have you been through the historical BDM Queensland. If he was killed in a Railway accident, then there would be an inquest - have you tried the State Archives of Queensland? Have you looked through the National library of Australia digitising project for any newspaper clippings? Have you found his death - online till 1929, deaths in Queensland available till 1964. The Railways in Townsville were known as the Great Northern Railway, Queensland Rail located at 502 Flinders Street, Townsville - we used to have a MORGUE for old files, no idea where they went. 3. Hi Vicki, ok.. depending on the time period we are talking about... and also where they were living at the time.. but in general if it was in queensland they should be at the Queensland state archives... however some court records remained with the court that the thing occurred in... like the mt isa district court for example. usually these types of things would be in a higher court though. supreme court ecclesiastical or miscellaneous.. usually. You can get the good folks at QSA to look for you.. if you send them an email they can allocate a couple of hours to look for something for you...however its best if you do some of the setting up... as two hours is not alot of time in the archives. So to start with I would just type their name into the index and see what comes up. that is where you will likely find their land records for toowoomba too if they had any. Also check the wills. they may have a copy of his death certificate in his will! so to contact QSA. info@archives.qld.gov.au will get you to the appropriate section. I hope this helps you... 3. Thanks Sue...Now the next silly question is where would I find court records? LOL Vicki -----Original Message----- From: aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-qld-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Sue Olsen If James was underage... he would have had to seek permission to marry from either his parents or he would have had to appear in front of the magistrate, might be worth a try seeing if there was an article relating to that in court records.. Sue.
