    3. Hi Dean, Hope you are not too awash with wonderful water up your way. Can you send some down here. On the CLDS Site there is Cecil Napier ROSS, born Hobart, Tasmania18.6.1885, son of Hector ROSS & Hannah FACY. No sign of him in the QLD deaths to 1964, nor K.M. SMITH, or Cannon & Cripps Funeral Directors Indexes for Brisbane. >From a Senate Rule of Prizes, There is a mention of a C.N. ROSS Prize. Founded in 1956 by contributors of approximately $540 from collegues & former students as a testimonial to Cecil Napier ROSS, who retured in 1953 from the teaching department of the Department of Civil Engineering, after 40 years of service with the university. 3. I found the explanation of how to trace a Land Order number, on the website of the QSA..just after I hit the send button....(Thanks Janet..I'll get back to you on another matter shortly...Happy New Year) Since I know the name of the owner of the Land Order, and the number..and .it appears that "in Some cases" the name of the ship and date of arrival may also be included on the record...I may get lucky... I will write to the QSA to see if they can clarify this for me.. Happy New Year.. 1. Re: [AUS-QLD] Tracing a Land Order Number

    3. The following was extracted from the Qld Public Records Historical Resource Kit - Part 1: LAND ORDER A land order was legal tender for the selection or purchase at auction of land made available under the various Queensland Land Acts in the nineteenth century. IT WAS NOT AN ORDER FOR A PARTICULAR PIECE OF LAND. Therefore it is not possible to find out from land order records the locality or real property description of the piece of land selected or purchased by a particular person. The scheme was designed as a means of inducing immigrants to settle in Queensland. The conditions under which they were issued changed substantially over time with changes to the relevant legislation. In general, they were available to persons paying their own passage in full, or to persons (such as shipping agents) paying the passage in full for someone else. At certain times and under certain conditions, they were also granted to the following categories of persons: nominated or remittance passengers; persons nominating immigrants; indentured passengers; employers contracting indentured passengers, and assisted passengers. The value of the land orders varied. In some cases, a first land order was convertible immediately after arrival and a second land order available after a period of residence in Queensland. Records of land orders issued usually give name of immigrant, name of person to whom the land order was issued, and in some cases details of the ship and date of arrival. DETAILS OF THE LAND PURCHASED OR SELECTED USING THE LAND ORDER ARE NOT GIVEN. A land order acts as evidence that a particular immigrant was resident in Queensland on a particular date. The records relating to land orders are not included in Part 1 of the Historical Resource Kit. Researchers wishing to examine these records will have to visit the Archives Public Search Room. 3. Hi and Happy New Year to you all, Lets hope 2009 is the year of the Missing Ancestor :-)) I have a land order number, and I would like to trace the owner... Is there any way that I can do this...?? The land order number is No. 2950.. Is there any explanation online explanation on how Landorders work?? It is owned by a person who has the same name as one of Ancestors... There are several people by the same name living in the same area...and it would be very easy to mistake one of these people as my ancestor, when the opposite might be true.. I'd be very grateful to be able to put this puzzle to rest... Thanks and Happy New Year Gay
