    3. Jo, The indexes for the marriages are online. however I have looked it up for you.. 1919/B22641 Fallows Arthur Britton Alice Maud Elizabeth this is the only marriage in queensland to 1929 for an Arthur Fallows. They were married in Brisbane. It doesnt appear that Alice Maud Elizabeth Britton had been married before as to suggest HOLMESTED was her maiden name. I thought that perhaps she was a niece of Margaret Mooney (Holmested) I would think that guardian would imply she was a child yes. ( under 21) As to where Arthur disappeared to between 1857 and 70 all I can suggest is it was Goldrush Fever down in Victoria in that time. Also in Queensland which is perhaps why he ended up settling here. So I am unable to assist with the police Gazette as I do not have that index. I am unable to find any children named holmested at all born before 1914. So I am sorry I am unable to find who exactly Maud (Alice Maud Elizabeth) is. Perhaps her marriage certificate might shed some light on the subject. I hope that this helps Regards Sue.

    3. Hi Don, If you need information about Convicts...Lesley Uebel who administers the Pt Jackson Convicts mailing list is a marvel... Of course they all came into Port Jackson before they were moved on up north to what is now Queensland. You could join the mailing list and pose your question, and I am positive that Lesley will be able to help you... http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/Prisons/AUS-PT-JACKSON-CONVICTS.html She has created several CDs which are listed on the website and has created the "Claim a Convict" site where you may run across someone researching the very convicts in whom you are interested.. Lesley's website is.. http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/ The Society of Australian Genealogists may also be able to help you.... 3. Don, there are a heap of sites online. One of the best sources that I know of offline. Is the Chronological register of convicts at Moreton Bay. Which is held at the Queensland State Archives and also the State Library. I have been writing a book and am about to start archaeological field work in Brisbane on the original burial ground which held some of the convicts after they died at Moreton Bay Penal Colony. also.. just so you know Queensland Separated from NSW in 1859 long after the convicts were here. In fact it is Queenslands 150th Birthday this year and there are a heap of celebrations going on. If you need any help on convict research here in Brisbane.. just let me know.. I have been working with these records for quite a while now. Kind Regards Sue.

    3. Can anyone tell where I can find information about all the convicts that were in QLD. QUEENSLAND separated from New South Wales. In 1824 the explorer Lieut. John Oxley took a party of 30 convicts and established a penal colony at Redcliffe. Known as the Moreton Bay Settlement, this later moved to the site now called Brisbane. The name Brisbane Town was in use by 1825 and the main inhabitants in the area were the convicts of the Moreton Bay Penal Station until it was closed in 1839. Around 2,280 convicts were sent to the settlement between 1824-1839 and at the end of 1836 the convict population numbered 337. The first free settlers moved to the district in 1838 and others followed in 1840. Don
