    3. Women are on the 1903 Electoral roll Barbara, they may have gotten the vote after. For example I have 1903Commonwealth of Australia - State of Queensland - Division of Maranoa, Polling Place - Blackall - No.10 - Margaret AITKEN - Clematis street, Blackall, Domestic Duties. World Vital Records have extended their free trial for Australia records, search there. if not search on www.ancestry.com.au 1903 rolls on CD. 1. [AUS-QLD] OWENS McGAW Reunion -
    2. Lorrae Johnson
    3. Hi List I am trying to make connections with anyone who knows of these families, Ada MOORE was born in 1875 at Glenrock, Qld, and married John Patrick OWENS in 1892. Following his death in 1901, she married David Henry McGAW. Her home at 163 Walsh St, Mareeba is now occupied by Alison Geisel Accountancy firm. "Street Names of Mareeba" Page 73 - Owens Street in Mareeba is named after her eldest son who did not return from World War One. Page 44 - Johnston Street "When their son, Bill, was 6 weeks old his mother took him to Mareeba to put him in the care of the McGaw family. This was thought necessary for his well-being because Mungana was considered an unhealthy place for babies as the water contained lead and many babies had died." "About 1919 William and Rose shifted to Mareeba to live and reclaimed their son. This was the time fo the bad 'flu epidemic which killed untold numbers of aboriginies and also many white Australians. Ada Emily McGaw used her home as a hospital for aboriginal victims and gave them wonderful care and attention." Ada was obviously a woman beyond her time. Her home at 163 Walsh St, Mareeba is now occupied by an accountancy firm. (This was originally the home of William Hort). Ada had 4 sons and a daughter to her first husband (OWENS) and a son and a daughter to her second husband (McGAW). Many of these families are still in Nth Qld. I would be interested in exchanging details with anyone who has knowledge of these families. I will have my scanner in Mareeba for the Reunion in June and would love the chance to gather more information on my great grandmother. Hi Jeanette The Qld and other State Libraries have historic electoral rolls for most States on large indexes of fiche . From 1903 to around 1988 these were indexed by electorates . 3. Jeanette, you should try posting on both the Victoria and New South Wales list, maybe they have access, if not you may have to go to an electoral office, Queensland is only up to 1949 available on CD, not sure about the other states what they have available.
