Jill, Stangely, there is no listing for John McWILLIAM in the 1870-1879 Roll. Cheers, Jules. Warren, NSW. (but a dinky di QLD girl). julie.dern@bigpond.com http://derngenealogy.tribalpages.com
Hi everyone, Are there any records available, e.g. Electoral roll, for Qld for the years 1870-1874? I would like to find out where my John Richardson McWILLIAM was living at those times. If the records are available and any anyone has access, could I have a look-up please? John was in Rockhampton in 1869, and could have been in Gympie in 1870, two daughters were born there, one in Jan 1870, and he was in Hill End, NSW, in 1874 I have found him travelling from Brisbane to Rockhampton twice in 1864, so he did move around a bit. This is the record of an unclaimed letter, address Ravenswood. Queensland, Australia, Unclaimed Letters. J. R. McWILLIAM Occupation: Nationality: **Address: Ravenswood Letter Code: c Number of Letters: 2 Date: 5 August 1871 Volume: XII Reference: 64 I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me why he might be in Ravenswood, or having mail addressed to there ? He had a Produce business in Rockhampton, but I have a feeling that he might have been keen on something to do with gold. Many thanks, Cheers, Jill

> Have you noticed how this data base has improved ??? . You > can now do county wide surname searches , I thought the old Format was better. You could do a "whole State " search, by reducing the number of search criteria... I want to able to zero in, on the specific phone number I am looking for normally, rather than wade through hundreds of names... BUT.. for those who haven't noticed, I can still do that by clicking on "Classic View" And Ray, the website is www.whitepages.com.au the online Telephone Book for Australia.. Cheers Gay
Dear Listers Have you noticed how this data base has improved ??? . You can now do county wide surname searches , like I just found there are 3132 x J WALKERs ! Excellent ! Bye MargM List Admin
> I would like to make contact with the family of the late Ted and Connie RILEY of Mitchell, Queensland. Since you asked the same question 10 years ago, I guess this must be a bit of a brick wall for you. Could you provide a few dates/places of birth, marriage or whatever you have as it might help people to help you? Kerry
Hi Barbara, Thank you for that marriage notice, I didn't have it, and it's been a big help with locating the marriage. I will try variations on the surname, thanks. Cheers, Jill
Hi Estelle, You are right, I've looked up the names in "J.S.Bird" and STEWART is mentioned there, as are most of the others on the list of signatories, and also HARDEN, who married my g/grand-uncle, Thomas MCWILLIAM. I've made contact with some ORR relatives in Clermont, what a wonderful outcome, so I will be able to fill in another branch of the tree, and that's them pretty much sorted out in Q'ld, just need to fill in some details of their lives and keep in contact, also. It's thanks to you, Estelle, and so many list members, that I've been able to come so far, and I'd like to thank everyone for all the help they give me, it's so very much appreciated. Cheers, Jill
Hello Mary-Ellen, >>snip I wonder if any of these names ring a bell, they are signatories to an application by my g/g.father, John Richardson McWilliam, to be admitted to the Bar, signed at Gympie in 1870. It's a letter to the Board of Examiners of the Supreme court of Qld. The names are :- Wm. MUNRO; D.MULLIGAN; ?james STEWART; D. MAITLAND; and O. Macdonald PATERSON.<<<<< Thank you for those records, I did have one of the Electoral roll records only. That's very interesting re those names turning up in Rockhampton, John must have known them there, I thought he had met them in Gympie, as that's where the letter was written?? You just never know!! I've just had a look at my "Early History of Rockhampton" by J.S.Bird, and all those above names are mentioned except for Paterson. They were all businessmen of note. That's great to know, saves me time searching in Gympie for them, just have to find out what John Richardson MCWILLIAM was doing there in Gympie in 1870, and where he resided. He never did become a Barrister. Thank you Mary-Ellen, Cheers, Jill
Hello Janet, Thank you for that notice, I didn't know where they were married, always had it down as possibly Rockhampton, so that's cleared up another query. Shortens my to-do list. Cheers, Jill
Hi Jill, Im guessing this - but considering the purpose - I wouldnt be at all surprised if the James STEWART from Rockhampton was the businessman whose premises remain on the corner of East & Denham Sts Rockhampton to this day. Stewarts is an historic department store there. I would like to make contact with the family of the late Ted and Connie RILEY of Mitchell, Queensland. I have been told that Ted Riley was a horse trainer, and that he lived in Mitchell, Qld., 'for years'. Does anyone know of this man or his family. He is the son of my great-grandmother Sarah RILEY. Hi List, Presbyterian B Section has been added to the Australian Cemeteries website, happy hunting http://www.ozgenonline.com/aust_cemeteries/qld/ipswich/ipswich.htm regards Kerry
Found this marriage notice in The Brisbane Courier dated Saturday 26 August, 1893: McWILLIAM - HARDEN.-On the 16th August, at the Wesleyan Church, by the Rev. J. Bowes, Thomas Moore William, eldest son of John Richardson McWilliam, Coonamble, Now South Wales, to Olga Christine, daughter of Carl Harden, Rockhampton. I have a copy of the Gympie Pioneer Register pre 1900, and none of those names appear.
