Evelyn I went to LDS irish films, but you need to have an idea of which parish they might be in and also be prepared to find that the earlier books can be unreadable or not there, not survived etc, or the "good" father moved and took them with him etc. I started with the information I found written on the bottom of a late birth registration for one of the sons of my Thomas and Sarah, which she registered in 1906 because he was getting married and taking the Bride overseas, he was born late 1850s but not registered, although was baptised at St Mary's Catholic Church Ipswich, which showed his actual birth date as well as baptism, so I got the certifcate and Mum had written on the bottom of the register form when and where they married at Gort, so I went to Familysearch to see what they had for that parish and have been getting the films to check. It is very difficult if you are not aware of which parish, but I have recently read in one of the english magazines that the Irish bdms from 1864 are now on line through Familysearch, haven't gone there myself yet as my two arrived at Moreton Bay Jan 1856, having left Galway in October 1855. Don't know if this can help. Hi there Thanks for the reply, didn't I look up this person for you some time ago. I seem to recall I had difficulty trying to tie her up, wasn't she at Sth Bne. Have come across a few Cahills, like the O'Briens. Just had a few hours at Archives, and whilst waiting for some research to be printed out, was shown a "new" book on the shelves that is an Index to properties and farm grass lands, and found a reference to my father's father who has property at Springsure, seems in 1894 he purchases 3000 acres at 1 pence per acre, for that price I guess we would all scrimp and save to buy. They seem to be putting out new records all the time, I know there is a team of volunteers who do a lot of transcribing, I was aksed once if I was interested, but because I do 2 days at GSQ and indexes etc for them I didn't think I had the time. Looks like we won't get any more Catholic Parishes to Index due to the Privacy Act and also an "edic" from the Pope last year that the Church will not co-operate with the LDS, we are probably lucky they have been able to so so much in the past. Well must go have to do a research report for the work I did this morning. Just a bit more to Lorrae's comprehensive reply - John Henry Adams WW1 file says that he was born in the Parish of Bungaree in/near Ballarat, he was 22-7/12 at enlistment (November, 1914) and enlisted at Enoggera. His NOK is Mr John Henry Adams, Sen., Yarram Yarram. I'm just wondering if there might be some confusion between the elder and younger John Henry's. Reading through the WW1 file, there is a letter from the solicitor acting for John Henry, Senior, which states that JH Junior had been a "Member of the Permanent Defence Forces at Brisbane for about four years before enlisting". Which must mean there is some more paperwork somewhere pertaining to this man. And neither here nor there in relation to the original query, but this letter also refers to the "Lonesome Pine" attack. Now that would have been a sad and haunting name for a memorial to so many dead, and so many dead without known graves. Barbara

Lillian, When you hit a brick wall, sometimes it is helpful to go back to the start and go over every piece of information, questioning if it really says what you thought it said or whether it is capable of some other interpretation. For example, you mention three brothers, John Henry, Charles Samuel & Joseph, all sons of Thomas Adams & Sarah Westicott. My problem is that when I look in the Vic births, the only children I find for that couple are: Samuel Thomas, 1870 Alfred Ernest, 1872 William Thomas, 1874 James, 1878 George Herbert, 1883 Edwin, 1886 So I can't see any sign of the 3 brothers you mention. Do you have some evidence that they are indeed brothers and the sons of Thomas Adams & Sarah Westicott? The WWW1 file for Charles Samuel Adams does say his next-of-kin is brother Alfred Ernest, but that is the only connection I can find. Hi Barbara, CAHILL must be as popular as Smith~ to be sure! to be sure! The parents of my Mary CAHILL were Thomas Cahill and Margaret McCabe. Mary's 1877 marriage certificate at St. Stephen's Cathedral, Brisbane states she was born in Kilkenny, Kilkenny (I guess that could be Parish or City and the County) She married Denis Finnegan, who died in 1883. As you have probably found there are many many Thomas Cahills and it is difficult to trace the right line. For the researcher looking into Henry MUSGRAVE that had 3 wives. This is to confirm after a full day research that this is the Henry MUSGRAVE that appears on the Cairns City Council cemetery database, (died 24.12.1930 - registered 1931/000144 - parents - Henry MUSGRAVE/Julia RYNG). I suggest you buy the death certificate now. His 3rd wife Jean (who's marriage I found in the BDM NSW and sent to you, use a transcription agent for a marriage transcription - cheaper than a certificate, I use Marbract Services), appears on the 1914 Queensland electoral roll, Chillagoe area - Klondyke - but Henry does not - perhaps out of the area. I found the death of Jean MUSGRAVE which I sent to you a couple of weeks ago. She died 1915, should appear on the BDM Queensland. Henry Musgrave's 2nd marriage and quick death of wife No.2 Catherine - you should buy the marriage certificate for that marriage - if I had a location I could look at cemetery index or the state electoral roll for him, but without a location, I don't have the time to plow through drawers of microfiche... If there was a fire, (which story is starting to look a bit shakey) and children were sent to an orphanage (where/when), then the Department of Children Services looks after looks requests. If you google up orphanages, Queensland you will see where they were located. There also appears to be a tree on one world tree in the name of cosvid (that's the submitter), perhaps your local library has a sub to ancestry and you can contact them. Henry and Jean MUSGRAVE, appear in the book Angor to Zillman, Cardross, if she is buried in any of those cemeteries - I don't think there would be alot left of those goldfields and old towns). Jenelle.
