    3. Sorry Kathy, There is nothing on my AVRI for him. I tried under both parents & individually. There was only a couple of Charles T deaths & they were before he was born. He must've died after the cutoff for these indexes which was 1908. You could look on the qld bdm site, just google. Cheers. Marg said: > Its already been done ? > http://tinyurl.com/nlzpsb I sez: Yes, as Marg says, I have done an index of the BDM notices for the Moreton Bay Courier (well, to the best of my abilities, no guarantees that it is perfectly correct) and I am working on extending it to The Courier (the newspaper that follows it) as well as indexing Mudgeeraba cemetery at the same time. I'm just the gal who can't say "NO" to indexing :-) But Brian is asking about the electoral lists, which I haven't indexed and have no plans to index. Having said that, I am a bit dubious that the State Library would be doing this. I don't think they have so much spare staff time that they can afford to have people creating indexes (nice as it would be). But of course, it might be a staff member doing it as a labour of love on their evenings and weekends, as I do. If anyone wants to index anything out of the NLA's digitised newspapers (whether it be BDMs, electoral lists, sporting results, shipping news or whatever interests you) and wants to contribute it with my index, please let me know and I'll send you the Excel spreadsheet that I use to create the index for you to fill in. Note I will be away for a few weeks on holidays so if I don't reply to you immediately, just be patient. Although I have only published an index to the Moreton Bay Courier, as you will see on the index, there is a column labelled "Publication" so my index can accommodate entries relating to other newspapers without any difficulty. 3. Hi Brian, Thanks for that. I checked it a few years back and yes my Daniel is mentioned with respect to shipping and his land purchase. I was able to follow that up with the Titles Office which was a mine of information. I've sent a query to the State Library to see if they can think of anything too. What I have found instead are a couple of cases where Daniel signed public documents which have been preserved in some form or other. Specifically, it was reported in the Moreton Bay Courier just after his arrival that he signed a petition of thanks along with other passengers, wishing the shipboard teacher well in his endeavours. In the last couple of days it has been brought to my attention that his name also appears on a list of signatories which was successful in having Brisbane proclaimed a municipality on 6th September, 1859. Firstly, I would like to know who holds the original petitions (there were 3), which I assume must still exist in some form for the lists to have been drawn up. Secondly, I am wondering if anyone knows of any other similar public documents which may list some of the citizens of pre-separation Brisbane or which the public may have contributed to. I would like to know what issues were relevant to Daniel and his family at this time and whether he might have voiced his opinions in some forum. Any thoughts welcome. 1. [AUS-QLD] Descendants of Victor John O'NEILL
    2. Joanne Mitchell
    3. Hi List, Am having another crack at finding more about this family who may be related to my O'NEILLs. Specifically, I am looking for anyone researching Victor John O'NEILL who married Bridget TIERNEY on 13th April, 1929 in Brisbane. Victor was the son of Daniel McGuane O'NEILL and Elizabeth RAWLINGS who lived at Thornton and who are buried (along with 2 of their children at Laidley Cemetery). Daniel migrated from Kilrush, County Clare in Ireland in 1853 on the John Fielden with my O'NEILL/CUSACK ancestors and another probably related family who used the surnames O'NEILL and McGUAUNE. I would love to find others researching these families to see if there are other avenues of research which I haven't yet pursued. I have my suspicions as to how the three families might be related, but have not been able to prove it and am hoping others may have details I have not yet found. Any ideas welcome. With thanks, Jo Mitchell Geelong, Victoria

    3. Hi Jim, Looks possible that he arrived WALKER James 19 years old on the ship Rippingham Grange on 13 Apr 1911 It looks as though the family came out to Australia.. minus Dad.. there was a family of 7 Walkers on the same ship on the same date... So big chance they are siblings and Mother.. by the looks of things. I know you said that you didnt want the shipping details however it looks promising that your 1911 guess is right... you can see these details yourself on the Queensland State archives online indexes, at the following http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/ Anyway hope this helps Sue.

    3. Jim Do you have any clues on wife or family or town in Qld he might have lived in or occupation while living there? It's just that James WALKER is a very common name and it's hard to distinguish one from another in the records. There are no James BROUGHTON in the 1913 or 1922 electoral roll so it doesn't look like he was using that name at the time. 3. You could try searching Mariners and Ships in Australian Waters - http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/search.htm But keep an open mind regarding the spelling of Finnegan. I found my Dalmation g-grandfather via his naturalisation papers (NSW State Records) - came here as an Able Seaman and, given the length of time he had been in Australia, I found the ship he had signed on in New York. French g-g-grandfather, I suspect, jumped ship in Geelong - he married and registered first child under an assumed name, but the darling man used his real name as second and third forenames. But no record found (yet!) of ship. Cheers Barbara
