    1. [AUS-QLD] First wife of William HENNESSY
    2. Lance Potter
    3. Hello List Can anybody please advise me how I may find the details of the first wife of my great-grandfather , William Grace HENNESSY ? William was born in Stoneyford , Kilkenny , Ireland about 1832-1836 to James HENNESSY& wife Catherine ( nee GRACE ) . The next information I have of him is his marriage to Bridget GALVIN on 19th April 1866 at Rockhampton , Qld, Australia. On their Marriage Certificate he is listed as a widower & Bridget as a spinster. The family have no knowledge of his first marriage -- date, place ( Ireland , Australia , another country ) , bride's name, any children ( anecdotal evidence suggests he had a son called Martin but is not confirmed ). Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Regards & thanks, Lance ( at Werribee, Victoria )

    3. You can search NSW BDM's online, free of charge, at http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?event=births You can use * as a wildcard. Give yourself the greatest chance of success by inputting as little information as you can; for example, Neal can be spelt a couple of ways - enter it as Ne* I'm a bit slow today and a little confused with your email (my high BP affects cognitive ability) but take it that Lena's parents are James and Johanna ?? Having a couple of Johanna's in my own family, I've found them on registrations shown as Joanna, Hannah, Norah, Nora, etc., so perhaps leave out Mother's Name. You will see on the results if there is a possible match or not. You can sort the various columns into alphabetical order by clicking on the column heading. As far as I know, there was not a Registration District known as Hawkesbury River. There was Penrith and Richmond, but must have been more - at least a registration centre to service the area closer to the coast. Give yourself at least a year or two leeway either side of the supposed birth year. Don't take it as writ in stone that Lena's name was Eleanor Elizabeth - might have been Elizabeth Eleanor. Also consider that there might be more children who were deceased and their existence unknown to the Informant. In the meantime, here's something to chew over - 1495/1862 NEILL WILLIAM J JAMES JOHANNA SYDNEY 9399/1862 NEAL HANNAH JAMES HANNAH MAITLAND Buy Now 11286/1867 NEAL WILLIAM JAMES HANNAH MAITLAND Buy Now 8591/1860 NEAL MARY A JAMES HANNAH MAITLAND Buy Now 13182/1869 NEAL ELIZABETH JAMES HANNAH MAITLAND Buy Now 10364/1864 NEAL SOPHIA JAMES HANNAH MAITLAND Buy Now 11526/1860 NEAL JOHN E JAMES HARRIET RAYMOND TERRACE Cheers Barbara

    3. Mary, google historical births deaths and marriages, new south wales - they have been on line for ages.. Check the National library of Australia digitising project - newspapers on line, the site has been posted numerous times, remember it was not and still isn't compulsory to have a funeral notice or obituary in the newspaper. Remember to search for her with her birth name not as Lena (I have someone shown as Lena on a death certificate but her real name was Catrina Matilda).. She could have married so check for marriages in Queensland and New South Wales. google Cooktown cemetery, she probably only has a marker and they could be long gone, buried under soil.. 3. Mary, The document sent to you is James NEILL'S death certificate & the children were at that age at the time of his death. So, yes, take their age off the year of his birth for their approximate year of birth. Johanna Josephine NEILL, died 23.9.1918 (1918/004076), no parents names. Buried 23rd Roman Catholic section, Cooktown Cemetery. The 1913 Electoral Roll shows Johanna NEILL, Home Duties, Helen St., Cooktown. Have you searched for the children under O'NEIL (L). Their children Leslie John Morton, died 17.10.1953 (1953/004412). Elizabeth Ellen NEILL, died 25.2.1952 (1952/000343). Cheers, Jules. Warren, NSW. 3. Hi Mary NSW Marriage... 929/1860 - NEILL JAMES & GAILFOYLE JOHANNA - BALMAIN Children... 1752 VOL 142A/1857 - O'NEILL JAMES - JAMES & JOHANNA (possible) 1495/1862 - NEILL WILLIAM J - JAMES & JOHANNA - SYDNEY possible birth for Lena... if Johanna was shortened to Anne... 440/1865 - NEILL ELIZABETH E - JAMES & ANNE - SYDNEY Deaths... 1477/1866 - NEILL GEORGE F - JAMES & JOHANNA - SYDNEY In the 1903 Electoral Roll James Neill - Grazier - Killarney Farm - Cooktown appears to be living by himself. Hmmm I wonder if this is William's death in Qld... 1909/C817- Neill Arthur James Augustine - James Neill & Johanna Guilfoyle Any of these kids stick to the names they were born with?! lol 1903 ER... Polling place Ayton district of Herbert... 'John' Leslie Morten Neill - Bloomfield River, Qld - Grazier In 1905 John's wife is living with him, same address... 1901/C412- Beach Elizabeth Theresa & Neill Leslie John Morton ER 1913 Leslie & his wife Elizabeth are now living at 'via Cooktown' however also listed are... Johanna NEILL & Eleanor NEILL living at Helen Street, Cooktown. :) 1913 - Leslie & Elizabeth - Ayton & Johanna & Eleanor still at Helen St. 1919 - same details - except no Johanna Neill. Okay in the 1925 ER - Leslie & Elizabeth are still in the same district, but Eleanor is no longer listed. So perhaps Eleanor/Lena died between 1919 & 1925. Though could not see a match on the Qld BDm's. 1930 - Leslie & Elizabeth now at Killarney - no Eleanor It's bizarre, when I just search for 'Eleanor' I get nothing on the Electoral Rolls. 3. Hello List, Still cannot find either the death or burial of Lena NEILL of Cooktown, North Qld. I have received documents from the Cooktown Historical Society's Marjorie, and browsing through these, I have found this article Reg.No.3228-24th March 1905 - James NEILL, .64 years- Grazier and Dairyman. Mag Inquiry 30 March and 3rd April 1905 before Lee BRYCE. Father - William (Schoolmaster), Mother Mary Jane MORTON (Margaret) Born Paramatta NSW - 32 years in Qld. Married Balmain Sydney at age 21 years to Johanna GUILFOYLE Issue - William James Augustine 40 yrs Lena (Eleanor Elizabeth) 37 yrs Leslie John Morton 35 yrs One male deceased Buried Cooktown - plot RCA (Roman Catholic A) 124A. 1. Now from the above information, do I find the childrens birth dates by extracting their ages from 1905? I assume this was their ages when this document was written. If this is the case, Lena was born 1868. Information states she was born on the Hawkesbury River NSW. Can I find her birth in the NSW Archives and is the BMD's online? Apparently she never married. 2. Family I am researching for thought she was buried in Cooktown but apparently her grave cannot be found. Can you help with this please.. Sorry cannot find any dates relating to her death but wonder if any newpaper had any obits., etc, seeing she was such a well known person in Cooktown, with Helenvale and also Helen St. Cooktown being named after her. Any ideas what papers I should check, and where will I find them please? Thanks for any replys to my request. Kind regards, Mary

    3. You can request a look-up from Ryerson Index - http://www.ryersonindex.org/ The Home Page has a Request button which takes you to a form to fill out online. I can't guarantee if they have access back to 1902, or how long it might take, but worth a shot. There is a CD of Rookwood transcriptions of headstones between 1868 and 1988. Hopefully, you should be able to find it in a library. Cheers Barbara

    3. The Qld Indexes are available on microfiche to Births 1829-1919 Marriages 1829-1939 Deaths 1829-1964 At a seminar run by the Genealogical Society of Qld Inc on Saturday 29 Aug two people from the Registrar-General's spoke about what they are doing in relation to indexes etc and how they are putting these on line in future. As there is now a 100 year closure no further birth indexes will be available until the end of 2019, and they will be releasing them one year at a time at the end each year, they mentioned the same would apply to marriages and deaths. They said there is a 70 year closure on marriages and 30 on deaths, which is about what it is at present. Microfiche copies of the indexes after: Births to 1914 on line are on microfiche to 1919 and are held at State Library Qld, Genealogical Society of Qld at East Brisbane, Queensland Family History Society at Gaythorne all in Brisbane and no doubt other societies in other cities or towns in Qld. Same applies to marriages from 1915-1939 and Deaths from 1915 to 1964. Also they advised they will not be releasing any more indexes on microfiche or cds in the future. This information as been up on this list several times in the past few years and are probably in the Archives of the site. 3. There's a Warwick & District Historical Society at 81/83 Dragon Street, Warwick, PO Box 236, Phone (07) 4661 3234, Fax (07) 4661 9532 - doesn't seem to have a website. I suppose they would have copies of old newspapers, etc. But they could probably help with events in the latter part of 1900. The Warwick Show was first held September, 1867 - these days its in March. You might contact them and find out when it was held in 1900 - http://www.warwickshow.com.au/content/view/10/12/ It's also possible that George was an independent 'travelling salesman', in which case he may have advertised his expected dates in any particular locality. With the heat and the sun in Warwick, I'm sure the ladies' complexions would have benefited from the occasional application of snake oil. Or emu oil. Or just a bit of entertainment. Cheers Barbara

I'm grasping at straws and using information on the Birth Certificate of my great aunt which states that her father was 'on tour' at the time of the birth. He signed the certificate so presumably was on tour in Warwick. Hope someone can help. I'm going to track down these people if it's the last thing I ever do!!!!! Grrrrrr - so elusive and so annoying!
