To all those who have been so kind to reply to my request, I thank you - genealogists are really a kind and helpful bunch !! Dennis
Hello Listers Please does anyone have access to the cd of the Qld Govt Gazette 1894, or to any Index that includes Wills, Intestacies, Deceased Estates, etc, advertised in the 1894 Govt Gazette? I am seeking further information about James SIMS, who was killed by a rock fall at Eisvold, Mt Rose & Stockman mine, on 25th May 1894. I'm also interested in any possible mention of him in earlier years regarding land selection/s. Thanks in hope Rosemary
Erin, use the State library of Queensland Ask a librarian to see if there were any funeral notices. Ayr has a historical society, just google it for an address. Erin, The death notice for Ronald, was in the Toowoomba Chronicle Newspaper. The QLD Electoral Rolls are available on CD Rom from Gould Genealogy, QLD Family History Society, or even EBay. Yes, QLD certificates are a terrible cost, but unfortuneatly we need them & the Registry knows this. Sorry, no transcription agents are in QLD. Cheers, Jules. Warren, NSW. (But, still a Queensland girl) julie.dern@bigpond.com http://derngenealogy.tribalpages.com
Jan, I have ancestry so I can look up to 1939 but after that would be great. Is this off the CD? It looks as though it is worth purchasing as there are so many people in this tree. I couldn't possibly ask anyone to do that - it could go on for ever! The WW2 nominal roll sounds interesting though - Do they have births or have you calculated for their births for me? Abraham Windley had 10 children just from marriage 1 and then he married twice again! So you can see how the numbers of family start to get really out of hand. They are from NSW so I am trying to do that as well. The Windleys are everywhere but the NOBLES (those which are my line of family) are no-where. Will get back to you with some key names but probably will buy the CDs - if you think they are good value! Thanks for our help Erin (QLD in UK)
Bev, I just started looking at those. I can't connect them to the early records up to 1919,29 and that is why all those records in between that are not available are so needed. Moruya and Charters Towers are key and both tricky as not much on-line. I have written to the Moruya Historical people but no reply yet. Thanks Erin (QLD in UK) Lots of WINDLEY'S on Ryerson Index here, especially Moruya. http://ryersonindex.net/search.php Bev
Hi Peter, Hope the quake didn't shake you about too much. We have dust brownout here. Colin Walter MUNRO, born 17.12.1913 (1914/012622), son of Archibald Chisholm MUNRO & Jessie Mabel BROWN. The 1913 Electoral Roll shows Archibald, Factory Manager & Jessie Mabel, Home Duties, of Toogoolawah (Brisbane Valley, north of Ipswich). Cheers, Jules. Warren, NSW. Erin - There are no Transcription Agents in Queensland. Try the National library of Australia digitising project (newspapers on line) for any births, deaths and marriages, or buy a death certificate for one of them. Have you looked at the nominal rolls for WW2, Korea, Vietnam to see if they had any military records. 1949 rolls are available on CD. Alot of our cemeteries are online either through ozgenon-line cemeteries, click Queensland or through the relevant Council site. Julie has done a magnificient job on the DERN INDEX... One other question on Dunwich, do you know if there may have been a Jail or Hospital there in the early part of the 1900's? Benevolent Asylum records (Updated) The function of a benevolent asylum was to provide for poor people who because of age, accident, infirmity or otherwise were unable to care for themselves. The inmates included not only the elderly but also younger people. A benevolent asylum was not a mental asylum, but some people spent time in both. For advice about records of Dunwich Benevolent Asylum (including Qld Government Gazette notices re inmates), see the book Tips for Queensland Research. (New) You can now search the Sydney Benevolent Asylum Index 1857-1900 (opens in a new window). Some Queenslanders (including unmarried mothers) are listed there.
