Could he have been taken back to Tuggerah for burial? Otherwise, if you have ruled out Brisbane cemeteries, the Brisbane options are Mt Thompson crematorium or Albany Creek crematorium -- I believe you will have to contact the crematorium itself, I don't know of any indexes otherwise. Thanks Jan Very much appreciated. I was hoping someone would know if they were solicitors in Toowoomba about 1900+? Would appear to be a educated family, if this is them. Hello Eileen, Alex Gow Funeral Director's Records: David John GORTON, 67 years, 10 Nov 1972, Entry No: 53/38375. These records were indexed by the Genealogical Society of Queensland (GSQ), and the actual fiche records should be available for look-up at the society. In Julie Dern's Dern Index for QLD, I located an entry for: Joseph Aubrey GORTON d. 19.01.1973 - husb & fa - MI - Kingaroy I then checked the GSQ burial records for the area and located him in the Taabinga Cemetery Burial Register Index: Name: GORTON, Joseph Aubrey, Date: 22 Jan 1973, Entry No: 146 Apart from Mount Thompson early records, I don't think Cremation records are generally available. Perhaps newspapers may be an option looking for his death? Hello everyone, Well, what a goose I feel, though this mistake has not been of my doing at all. Apologies to all who have gone out of their way and spent time looking for Horace LANCASTER. That was the name I was told Horace Lankester SCARR had taken by deed poll in 1925. I have been sent a copy of the Deed Poll Document, and he changed his name to Harry LANCASTER!!! Shows how easily errors occur in info passed on. Given this new, documented info, could I please have a look-up for a death of Harry LANCASTER, b. 1877 as Horace Lankester SCARR, his parents were William SCARR and Helen LANKESTER. He was married to Ruth Jessie JOSEY nee ALBURY. They separated. He was alive for the ER in 1949, and an optometrist. I don't know if he ever divorced, but that will be another step to take. I do have him on the 1934 and 1949 Electoral Rolls. Many thanks and I'm sorry that you went to so much trouble to help me with the wrong name, Cheers, Jill

Hi again everyone, I wonder if anyone could look-up a Rockhampton newspaper for reporting of an inquest into the death of William Arthur Lankester ORR, who died on 27th Dec., 1937 at Yandaburra. I think it would be reported in the Rocky newspaper if at all. I don't have a date for the inquest. Many thanks, Jill
Hello Barbara, Thank you for looking up records for me, and for those helpful suggestions. And apologies for not making my initial post easier to understand. I'll certainly have a look at the War Graves site, and keep in mind the idea that there might have been an inquest. Joan has send a couple of E.R records (1934 and 1949)for a Harry Lancaster, Optometrist, which certainly looks promising. Horace's parents were William Scarr and Helen Lankester. so that 1949 death isn't his. >snipThe lesson I have learnt is that the information on registrations is >only as good as the Informant/s knowledge, or what the Informant/s want others to believe. But then, it may only be my family who had such a fluid attitude to names. And legal documents.>> I think we all have trouble with name changes and illegitimate children in our family tree, and you're right about the info on certificates, they would have thought that nobody would ever find out their secrets I suppose. How wrong!! We don't have any glaring name changes in our direct line, that I have come across that is. Some bad transcriptions of Census which makes for a difficult and sometimes fruitless search. I suppose I could also look for a divorce for Horace. Thanks once again, Barbara, for your suggestions and family snippets. Cheers, Jill
Hi Joan, Wow, those electoral records look promising, Horace was living at Sandgate in 1925 when he changed his name by deed-poll.(Have no idea as yet why he changed his name). Thank you for taking the time to look them up for me, Cheers, Jill
