There are two cemeteries in Charters Towers, the Pioneer cemetery and The Lynd cemetery (so-called because it's out along the road that goes to The Lynd -- it's not actually at The Lynd). Given the date of death, I'm pretty sure you want the Pioneer Cemetery. The Lynd opened in 1895 (I think). There is monumental inscription data for the Pioneer Cemetery: http://www.myrasplace.net/hstones/hchtwrs.htm but I don't know if anyone has burial registers available. Very much appreciate your help with Peter Murphy. I don't understand why he doesn't show as being buried at Chartes Towers. The death cert. says he was buried there 7 April 1878. Maybe that Catherine Murphy with no particulars was his wife. No, there is no age or anything else known about Catherine. Last child known to be born to Peter and Catherine was in 1853 Brisbane. It appears that one child, Elizabeth bapt in 1846 Brisbane has a mother as Catherine Dewen. I believe this is Catherine Thompson, but no proof - father was Peter Murphy. Peter Murphy arrived on the Countess Harcourt 1827. He was born 1806 Dublin and was transported for Life. He was a Plasterer by trade. His trial was 26 Jan 1826. There were a few Peter Murphys around and at least one other on the same ship. His nickname was Duff. I know he was a Constable in Brisbane and in Bowen. He married 1842 in Sydney to Catherine Thompson. Both were Catholic. I know he owned property at Kangaroo Pt and Ipswich. I think this will be a hard one!! Hi Jenelle! Thanks for the response. I didn't realise women were not shown before 1903 - that is a shame. I think it will be very difficult to find anything about Catherine, but maybe I can follow Peter Murphy. I tried those sites you suggested, but nothing showed. Thanks very much. Hello everyone! Wondering if anyone can advise me what Electoral Rolls are available for Queensland before 1900. I am looking for a Peter Murphy family who were living in Brisbane from about 1842 (married Sydney 1842) and were having children in Brisbane from about 1844 (baptised RC.) Peter Murphy was a convict who accompanied Patrick Leslie on his quest to find a route from northern NSW into Darling Downs. Peter was granted a Ticket of Leave in 1842 and a Pardon in 1847. He became a Police Constable in Brisbane and later moved to North Qld - Bowen and died in Charters Towers 1878. I have his death cert and marriage cert. Marriage says he married a Catherine Thompson who was also RC. It does not give anymore info about her. I am trying to obtain more information about this couple. They had children: Margaret 1844 Elizabeth 1846 Peter 1848 John 1850 Edward Joseph 1853 On the death cert of Peter Sr in 1878, it says there were 5 males dead and 1 female. Margaret was 34yrs, Elizabeth 32yrs and Peter 30yrs. Obviously, there were 3 more males and 1 female born to this couple - maybe died in infancy? Is anyone connected to this family or can help me track down some more details about this fellow? Hi List, Could sks help with the following please I would like to try and find a death notice for the late Eric Leo PERKINSON who died on 27 August 1995. All I know is he died Queensland. I have the death notice for his wife Norma who died in April this year and he is not buried with her. Norma's ashes are buried at Mt Gravatt Cemetery. I have checked the Brisbane City Council site and only Norma is on it. Any help would be welcomed Thank you Eileen Smith Christchurch New Zealand
Eileen, won't don't you use the State Library of Queensland "Ask a Librarian" (google it), you have his name, date, good possibility his funeral notice will be in the Courier Mail. It wasn't and still isn't to put funeral notices or obituaries in the newspaper.
