    3. Barbara is right that there was a list created when they were trying to relocate the graves, but it's far from complete. The original cemetery was not run by just one organisation, but by a number of different church groups, who didn't appear to keep particularly good records, so even 100 years ago they didn't have a very clear idea of who had been buried there. Possibly of interest to this conversation is this document at Qld State Archives: http://www.archivessearch.qld.gov.au/Search/SeriesDetails.aspx?SeriesId=1886 1 which is described as: This series consists of Brisbane General Cemetery (Toowong Cemetery), Brookfield, Moggill and Lang Park portion plans showing the position of burial plots. Each plan contains a portion number and plot numbers. The Lang Park plan includes names of deceased. I believe that some family history societies may have compiled lists of people known to be buried at Lang Park based on whatever information was available, which might include the information gathered back when they were trying to relocate the graves, as well as death certificates and funeral notices obtained through the research of their members. There is a full listing of people buried there set out In a Queensland Government about the middle of the 1910s, as the Government contacted known families for them to advise where the persons were to be moved to. It is understood that a lot went to the "new" Toowong/Brisbane General Cemetery" and others were taken to where the families requested. This list if also set out by Religion. I can't remember the exact date of the list but do recall seeing it, I know we had a copy from the Gazette at GSQ rooms but could not find it a while ago when I went looking for one of the members. Are these gazettes on line as I know we have them on our computers, and State Archives have films of the gazettes in their microform room where the computers and printers are located. However they are only those that could be found in 1914 when the cemetery was being demolished. there are a mere 600 names listed out of at least 10,000 So.. with time I have whittled the list down from over 30,000 deaths in the time frame that the cemetery was open to just over 10,000 that are still not located for certain. If I could scrounge up $40,000 I could get the information from the registrar. Sue. 1. [AUS-QLD] UK- QLD Immigration, 1883: Levi & Mary BAILEY and family - any connections?

    3. Hi Queensland List By way of introduction, I'm a new subscriber to this List, but a Rootsweb list subscriber since the mid-1990s, a Cornwall Online Parish Clerk (OPC) for four parishes and a family history researcher for the best part of the past 30 years. Since the publication of the 1881 census (their last mention), I've been trying to determine what became of my 2x gt-grandparents, Levi BAILEY (chr 1834, Dawley, Shropshire) and wife Mary, nee HUGHES, who married in Bilston, Staffs in 1856. Their oldest daughter, Harriet (my gt-grandmother) emigrated to New Zealand in 1880 with her husband and two children. The last reference found for her parents and siblings was in Openshaw, Lancs (ie Greater Manchester) in 1881. By a process of elimination, I figured that they must have emigrated - but where to? After all these years, this afternoon I have discovered that they went to Queensland!! Name: Levi Bailey Ship Name: Bulimba Port of Arrival: Cooktown Arrival Date: 5 Mar 1883 Identifiable children found to have migrated with them: Rachel (b 1866); Ruth (b 1870); Levi (b 1873); Clara (b 1880). Possibly also their 3rd daughter, Sarah Elizabeth (b c1861), and not sure about their 2nd daughter, Mary Ann (b 1859): there was a listing for a "Miss Bailey" who may have been her. (There appear to have been other, unrelated, BAILEYs on the same voyage). I have now found that the older Levi BAILEY may have died in "Queensland": Name: Levi Bailey Death Date: 6 Feb 1910 Death Place: Queensland Father's Name: William Bailey Mother's Name: Sarah Elizabeth* Registration Year: 1910 Registration Place: Queensland Registration number: B012110 Page Number: 937 *slight inaccuracy: her name was Elizabeth (no Sarah), but otherwise I'm confident that this should be my man. In 1905 (Electoral Roll) Levi & Mary BAILEY appear to have been living in Oxley Division, Queensland. Query: Is this anywhere near Sinnamon Park (where my step-daughter & family live)? I have also found (on Ancestry) what looks like a marriage for Clara BAILEY (b 1880) - m 1900, Charles George FRANKLIN Query: is there a "Digger" Index for Queensland, as there is for Vic, NSW etc? More to the point, are there any Listers who are researching Levi BAILEY and family?! Thanks for any guidance. 3. Hello Blanche, There is a Levi BAILEY who married Sarah HAY on the 12/2/1908 1908/B006302 The 1908/B006302 is the index if you wish to order the certificate and the 'B' after the '/' means that the event was registered in Brisbane, no 'B' means that the event was registered somewhere else in Queensland. 3. Laraine, Have you checked the Brisbane City Council site. The 1959 Electoral Roll shows Alfred James FARR, Clerk, & Harriett Jean, Home Duties, 367 Cavendish Rd., Coorparoo, Brisbane. 3. Wayneann I have a subscription to the World Ancestry.com. The only James Fenelon Faithfull is in Australia which I am sure you have seen I am not sure if you are aware that the Ancestry search engine is not too good for the US City Directories. If there is any or all of the searched words in a short space it will come back as a hit For example there are 2 James Faithfull listings in Hawaii show the following: Hawaii Brewing Corporation LTD Samuel T Hill Pres. Geo. B. Case V-Pres-Treas R.P Faithfull Sec-Dir James A Reid Asst. Treas. Brewers of Premium Beer Kapiolani Blvd. Cor Cooke Tel 6099 You can see that it is an R. P. Faithfull and a James A. Reid that respond to the search for James Faithfull. These entries are the same for two years. 1938 and 1939 The directory for Washington is in Longview, WA in 1940 The entry says: Cascade Way From Ocean Beach Hway and Pennsylvania SW to 15th Ave 2 n of Vandercook Way: 2509 Whitman Harry F. 2527 Adams Cecil R 2533 McCann James D 2541 Faithful Clyde W. 2547 Stalberg, Carl A 2557 Ashley Howard B. The directory for Massachusetts (3000 miles away from Longview WA) Cambridge 1925 Faithfull, George E. Student M. I. T. res at B About 10 listings below George is Fall, Augusta, wid. Of James H. h. 82 Inman. The directory for Toronto Ontario Canada 1888 Edwards, James Several listings below is Carnochan James And just below that is Faithfull, James I wish that these were yours, but you'll have to look elsewhere.
