    3. This trove search reveals many snippets about her: http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/result?q=%22mrs+dick+telephone%22~20 A couple of particularly useful ones are: * Her obituary http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article20560715 * Her retirement http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article113176806 * a description of how the exchange operated under her control http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article22285521 Quite a few of them mention her children and grandchildren too (some of them lived in South Africa where she visited them at some times). All-in-all she lived quite an interesting life! I have located that Magdalene Dick, and her husband William Heddle Dick are the great grandparents of a member of our family (married one of my cousins). I was going to gather in a little data about this Magdalene Dick for the family records but can find nothing about her. She is known to be the first lady superintendant of the first Telephone Exchange in the then "Colony of Queensland", yet her story seems rather elusive. I know she died in Brisbane on the 22nd July 1922 (I dare say I could get her death certificate, but that is not going to give me any history about her quite unique career for that period of time, as she juggled that and rearing her family) and had been a widow for some twenty-nine years. I cannot seem to locate her marriage to William, nor even when and where she was born. Is she on anyone's tree, who might be able to enlighten me please? 3. HI again Margaret, Looks as though they arrived as a family from London per the Jelunga in 1891. See http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/Researchers/Indexes/Immigration/Pages/Immigration1848.aspx I would look in the UK for a marriage. Deaths obviously in Queensland. (index online) Burial (index online) The newspaper article referred to by James, states that she is the sister of T.E Price. which would hint that her maiden name was likely Price. Best of Luck Sue. 3. Hello Tony, Re: LAZZARONI - Halifax, North Queensland While I don't have any personal information on your Lazzaroni family, I too am certainly familiar with the name. The 'Cairns Post' and the 'Townsville Daily Bulletin' [newspapers in that area] are available through our Australian National Library. The link is http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/search?adv=y Make sure that you go down through the list of States and tick the heading for Queensland. There are quite a number of entries for the Lazzaroni name, perhaps some of those will give you a lead. There is also the Cairns Historical Society and the Townsville and District Historical Society. They may have material that would be relative to your inquiry. If there is anything specific please let us know. There are many very helpful people on the Queensland list.
