Hi Sandra, I saw on the ABC program Landline, wild Australian camels are in demand overseas as they are thoroughbreds compared to what is available in middle eastern countries these days. Erosion caused by camels to bushland is a problem in Central Australia and they are rounded up and sent to abattoirs as camel meat is in great demand in Indonesia. regards Max ________________________________ From: Sandra Parker <Sandra@parkershouse.net> To: "aus-pt-jackson-convicts@rootsweb.com" <aus-pt-jackson-convicts@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, 16 August 2013 4:00 PM Subject: Re: [PJ] Afghan person Hi, Just for general information, the descendants of a number of the original Afghan cameleers still live in Alice Springs, Central Australia. So if you have a family name, you may be able to find out more. Their stories have been written in a number of publications.
