Hi Lesley, thank you so much, yes I do have a news report it is only on the arrest, there were 4 of them, all sales men on a drunken spree, it is said they passed a counterfeit coin at the turn gate, and broke into a house into a house. I had Richard Callanan do a lot of research he was good but could not identify Daniels parents . Daniel was born between 1808 and 1810, there are several Daniel Fowlers born around that time I have ruled out the one in Bridport, and Daniel Fowler the artist who went to Canada. Daniel claimed to be born in Stover Bristol which makes sense as his mother seemed to be known there. I have found in recent years he was a boatman for Fredrick Garling the artist, until Daniel was killed accidently, when some timbers fell on him. Its a needle in a haystack, I have an elderly cousin who has spent her life on this research I would love to solve it for her. He received a Conditional Pardon in 1847 - some 16 years after his arrival. As regards his wife, have you checked the newspapers of the time for Taunton/Somerset or Staffordshire? Hi Laraine, As Daniel and Bridget appear to have had a number of female children, it could be that they used the name of his mother for one of the children. Go through each of the girls names on FreeBDM http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl She will probably also be listed in the 1841 and 1851 English Census Regards Lesley Uebel http://www.claimaconvict.net/index.html CLAIM A CONVICT email: ckennedy@bigpond.net.au On 4/06/2013 9:10 AM, Laraine Dillon wrote: > Hi Lesley, > thank you so much, yes I do have a news report it is only on the arrest, > there were 4 of them, all sales men on a drunken spree, it is said they > passed a counterfeit coin at the turn gate, and broke into a house into a > house. Leslie. I have thought along those lines for many years the first girl born to them here in Australia was Rachel. I searched her as his mother to no avail. The sons were Fredrick, and George (my Great grandfather) then a Daniel. I found a few of those as well but could not connect any. This is a most intriguing story there is a myth about the Fowler millions.. I was said that after Daniel died a brother came out from England to give the family money but when he found out that Bridget his widow was a Catholic nothing came to pass. I have so much correspondence from my Grandmothers cousins who conducted research just before WW2. But nothing in it just suppositions, and a story that the first non catholic to turn up and collect the million won the jackpot no wonder two of the cousins went to England funded by all of the others to find the relatives over there, then war hit and of course ruined everything... can you recommend a good researcher in England please as I know Richard has retired. The money story I am not concerned with I just want to know my family line. several times Daniel was referred to as James, in articles, that struck me that he could have had an Alias. and there was a James Fowler the Mayor of Bristol. Hi everyone, Yesterday, I attended the lunchtime lecture given by Chris Maxworthy. It was very interesting and informative lecture, and I thank him for alerting listers to the event. It was held at the office of the Australian History Society at 133 Macquarie Street, Sydney. They hold an array of artwork depicting very early Darlinghurst and surrounds, which made very interesting viewing, the lecture apart. One such piece is a panorama of the windmills of Sydney that featured in recent discussions on this list. Though not well notated, for interested parties, this may shed some light and thus be worth a trip to see where various windmills were located. Thanks again Chris. Regards, Lee
