Hello Lesley Thank you so much for this information!! I've got some more avenues to look at now :-) And, yes, Thomas did marry Ann BYRNE in 1829, but I don't know her family yet. It does make sense that she might be related to his previous "boss", and that once he received his freedom he felt he could marry her. Another lead to follow :-) Thank you :-) Eunice Eunice Donovan Calen QLD 4798 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lesley Uebel" <ckennedy@bigpond.net.au> To: <aus-pt-jackson-convicts@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 03, 2013 9:33 AM Subject: Re: [PJ] My convicts - Patrick GRACE and Thomas O'SHAUGHNESSY Hi Eunice, On 23 January 1823, Patrick was assigned to William Elyard at Picton. As the transport Countess of Harcourt” arrived on the 21st December 1822, this was probably his first assignment. According to the 1825 General Muster, he was assigned to Mr. Smithers at Sydney. According to the 1828 NSW Census Patrick Grace was working as an Overseer for James Smithers at Camden. On arrival in November 1822 Thomas was sent to Airds for distribution. In the 1825 General Muster Thomas was assigned to James Byrne at Appin. In the 1828 NSW Census Thomas Shaughnessy was in receipt of a Ticket of Leave and was working for James Kennedy at Appin as a Labourer. Did Thomas marry Ann Byrne? And if so, was she related to James Byrne to whom he was assigned?
