I discovered my presumed cad of a direct ancestor who had abandoned his wife and 6 living children as paupers, was actually transported for stealing wheat. He was granted TOL and went on to become a selector at Collector and 'marry' a fellow convict. His haystack was a victim of arson and he later died after a cart accident, delivering his wheat.
